Mission Idea?

Patterned after OP's "Epicenter" mission, use a blackhole instead of the exploding planet. Also use a pirate cartell instead of an empire for the hostile warship(plural?). The story could be that a cartell had raided large a  number of freighters (captured a convoy or two?) for their cargos and left the damaged ships (with crews) to fall into the blackhole to destroy any evidence. It might also be an option to beam over a repair crew or parts like in the ISC campaign mission "Diplomatic Immunity"  This could be one of many new missions of "your Empire" vs the pirates and could eventually lead  to a whole new set of campaigns.  I have other mission ideas along this line if somebody would like to hear them and possibly make them.

"Repel the Boarders"

Starting with a convoy defence mission as the base, have the defending escort occupied with several small pirate vessels that pulls the  escort away from the convoy. Another pirate vessel with a large number of boarding parties and transporters captures the freighters and leads them off the map at best speed in different directions.  This could lead to the mission above.

Using a large grid, set up a dense asteroid field.  The mission would be to find the hidden Pirate asteroid base while being harrassed by multiple small pirate ships.Tthe goal would be to retrieve some important object or key piece of information from the base.  The base might be heavily armed with a max load out of fighters as any pirate base would be. Firesoul might want to add some Pirate "specials" to the shiplist to  accomodate these missions.

Gauntlet:

Instead of a planetary assault, your orders are to go to a planet already under assault.  You have a number of items to transport down, and wounded to evacuate.

To assist you, you have a small screening force to engage the enemy fleet, but the enemy fleet to too powerful for you to neutralise.  By the time you arrive at the planet, the enemy fleet is hot on your heels.  You can win this mission without firing a shot, but if you try to slug it out, you WILL die.

No the mission doesn't end, and you have to forfiet.  See "Investigation," SFC OP

You have to escort a convoy to the planet above to transfer supplies to reinforce it. Included in the convoy could be commando transports, tugs and freighters and possibly aux carriers because it was known the convoy was going to a hot area.
