SH3 Big Waves Mod - Bigger waves for Silent Hunter III.

//////////////////////by timetraveller

-----------
THE MOD
-----------
SH3 Big Waves Mod nearly doubles the wave size for the same wind speed in Silent
Hunter III.

Wind speed given by the game is now equivalent to two times the speed shown. See
the detailed explanation below.

------------------------------
INSTALLING SH3 BIG WAVES MOD
------------------------------
First, backup your SilentHunterIII\data\scene.dat file.

Unzip the downloaded file. Copy the scene.dat file to the
SilentHunterIII\data folder. Run the game.

I hope you have fun with it.

Note: for better wind sound, open the SilentHunterIII\Sound\amb_Wind1.wav file
in Windows Sound Recorder and increase the volume by 25%. Resave the file.

---------------
THE DETAILS
---------------
Silent Hunter III wave height is controlled by the wind speed. 0 m/sec wind
speed gives you a glassy surface. 15 m/sec gives you the maximum wave height,
about 3.75 meter waves. These values are for the default, unmodified game.

Originally, I thought wave height was a little skimpy. In actuality, wave height
is fairly accurate as far as I can measure it. I did some detailed measurements,
and if anything, it looks to be just a little bit too high for the wind speed.
The Big Waves Mod nearly doubles the wave height (x1.9) for the same wind speed.

My original intention was to be able to have wind speeds of 0-45 m/sec. I was
able to do this, but unfortunately there were three problems:

1. It was not available in the campaigns, only single missions.
2. You can't set wind speed higher than 15 m/sec in the mission editor. It can
be set higher by modifying the .mis (mission) file with a text editor. This is
cumbersome. However, even doing this, you still have problem #3.
3. As soon as the weather changes in a single mission where wind speeds have
been set higher than 15 m/sec, the game resets the wind speed back to a value
under 15 m/sec. It will never rise above that 15 m/sec again. So, you have lost
your ability to have really bad weather (and waves) in the future again.

I settled on leaving the max wind speed alone and doubling the wave height for
that speed (15 m/sec). This solves all three problems above. What you have to do
is imagine the wind speed given by the game as twice what it shows. The wave
height will be accurate for that imaginary x2 speed.
