*****NOTE*****

This ship is intended for SFC 1.

The Klingon Standard Barge.
-----------------------------------------------
Barges are used to tranport pods and containers of produce, equipment and raw materials between locations.

The Klingon Barge is an improved version of the Slow Barge and is intended for long haul voyages between more remotely spaced star systems.

The third engine was added in an effort to improve on the abismal sublight Impulse speeds of the Slow Barge by improving on the apparent mass reducing Subspace Field around the vessel when laiden. However, little improvement was gained by this, as adding a thrid engine also increased the vessel's mass. Warp speed is improved to Warp 4 (64c) unlaiden, Warp 3 (27c) with one pod and Warp 2.5 (15c) with two pods attached.

During the four powers war and a period of alligence with the Klingon Empire, the Lyrans acquired at least 200 Klingon standard barges in an effort to improve their logistics problems and economy. The Klingons, dismayed at how chaotically the Lyrans ran their infrastructure, regarded this as an essential millitary aid package. However these were distributed amongst the clans on a favouritism basis rather than where they would be of most use.

Keen to help improve Lyran war production, the Klingons also donated a large number of ore refinery pods, something that Lyran technology had not been able to produce. Once again these were distributed amongst the clans on a favouritism basis, which limited their effectiveness in boosting the Lyran war economy.

The barges were also able to carry Lyran standard pods and pallets, including the troop landing pallets. Because of this many barges were deployed in Lyran marine squadrons during front line operations on both the Kzinti and Hydran fronts during General War.

Like the Klingons, the Lyrans used the barges to carry mobile logistic bases, in their knocked down form, and deploy them whe and where they were needed.

Unlike the Klingons, who had special ships for such roles, the Lyrans used the barges for warship rescue & recovery, fleet battle tender duties (carrying the spare engines, parts, shuttles and fighters for the fleet), auxilary PF tender, auxilary carriers and as an auxilary tug. In none of these roles did they perform well, especially as a fleet battle tender, as the they forced the fleet to have to reduce speed so that they could stay in formation.

Never intended for front line combat exposure these barges suffered heavy casulties.

Steps to install:
-----------------
(1) Unpack zipped file.

(2) Move the model folder to Starfleet Command/Assets/Models folder. If you're smart enough to have all the races in seperate folders then place this ship in the Federation folder.

(3) Copy the Shiplist fragment and paste it into the Federation FF part of your Shiplist file in Starfleet Command/Assets/Specs/Sfbspc13.txt

(4) Modify the model folder references to suit your own SFC models directory structure.

Note: That to use these ships in a game you'll need to have at least one stock ship or station flying wingman with it otherwise the game will crash.
