I have just begun a Conquest mode game with the Borg and I was wondering, is there any quicker way to gain prestige than doing missions like Scan for 300 each time? I've tried attacking an Orion Pirate planet but my ship isn't strong enough to take it.

You can change the starting prestige editing the correct .gf file. I think it is the character.gf file.
Also, I'm using Dominion Wars mod wich have more differents missions, each of them with more prestige gained.

Hmm, look up some strategy Guides on the net. From them you should be able to figure out some strategies which will allow your small ship to destroy the enemy.
If you are doing the standard missions like Scan and distress Call, try to upgrade transporters and see if taking over the pirates will do you any good. The real potatoes though, lies with Invading enemy space.
