Title: Problem connecting to Dynaverse 3 servers

Whenever I try to connect to a server, such as SFC3.net or Activision B, I get an error saying that it found incompatible files, and then makes a list of 8 such files that are different types of META_HAIL.scr files, the message for each is "Found bad CRC"

My friend bought the game on the exact same day as me, and his works fine.  He has dx8.1, I have dx9 with the fix installed.  I don't think I have a router, I am just connected to the internet using the university's cable provider, which just needs a network card.  My friend has a corporate cable provider though, with a cable modem.  Does any of this make sense, and has anyone else ever had this problem?
