OK, here's a couple of shots of the texturing work on Azels Connie refit. It's taking longer than I thought, due in large part to the fact the weather has been beautiful here and I haven't been able to work up the gumption to work on it.
Also, originally I was able to reduce the polies from 10000+ to around 8500...it's getting lower, as everything seems to have a double face. I select a section to detach and map, and there's another identical section under it, like when it was converted it made multiple LODs.
So....Should be less when I'm done, just time consuming.
Azel, please let me know what class to make it...I can't do the windows without knowing. Right now I'm doing her as a Light Cruiser.
Here's the pics:

-
Acording to the book it is A Challenger Class Composite Frigate
The reg is UFPF Challenger OVL 9195-L and the bridge should be black
i have an old model of this ship by M Pitt i will send you a copy if you like
Fire Blade
-
It is a frigate, but it looks like a cruiser(like the Chandley from FASA)...so I say make it a Cruiser...it looks large...so standard windows would suffice.
She looks awesome so far man...if you noticed saucer has some added "meat" to her(that extra level on the dorsal side)
make use of it if you like.
As for the registry...if you could do two versions of the registry...that would be cool...if not then thats cool too
Thanks Sandman!!!!
-
oh and Sandman please remember that beautiful UFP emblem on the sides of the "neck"
Thanks

Thanx Fire Blade, that would be nice to have.
Light Cruiser it is then.
I always want to make these things with a Connie saucer a cruiser...frigates are too small for the saucer to be believable, IMHO.
Hope to have more pics manana.

This is looking very nice, gentlemen. It'll definately make a great CL.

I know its shameless but what can I do
-
Sorry, didn't do anything on it again yesterday...beautiful weather and FOOTBALL!!

I will work on it tonight, I promise and post some pics. I was thinking, since this is kinda a kitbash, what with different parts from different ships, things won't match up exactly. Does anyone agree? What I mean is, mayber colors and panels are a little off from one section to the next. Just a thought.

The 11th commandment:
Football is an acceptable excuse for any sin of omission.
-
Sounds ok with me...but remember to go by the Pic...the ship's Nacelles and Interhull are
all alien materials...it is that olive green-biege?? color
But yeah feel free to experiment and explore

Bump this!!

Soryy guys, I couldn't help it.
Unfortunately, I have accomplished little in the last few days. Either my kids brought something home from school or my wife did from the pharmacy where she is a clerk and deals with sick peeps...either way I was laid up for awhile, but I'm good to go now.

I have the day off tomorrow and plan on working on it as long as my old eyes and my ol' lady let me. Hopefully I can get a lot done, but it is slow going due to the extra layer of polys under the top ones. It's almost like when you import a stock model and have 3 ships in the same spot...the LODs I believe. I select a section to detach for mapping, detach it, then say WTF!
To reiterate how this all came about, Azel sent me the mesh in LWO and MS3D formats...I opened them in Deep Exploration (no, not at the same time) and converted to 3ds format, then imported to max. Both models show the same effect and I am stumped.
If anyone knows what might have happened and can make this easier, please let me know.
Azel, if possible, could you send it to me in mod format? Maybe it's just something with DE and converting to 3ds. Thanx for the help in advance if you can.
Ant help on the doubling issue would be highly appreciated.

-
Maybe if Azel can send me the .LWO (and might be able to open the .MS3D as well), I can try and convert it over to a .MOD (that you'd have to remap for textures because I don't know what your texture mappings would be like). No guarantees, but I'll give 'er a shot for you. Just need to know how many polies the ship was for both version (.LWO and MS3D) after conversion so I know if I'm helping at all when I do it.
-
OK I can mail it...it is on its way gentlemen
-
You Guys Got Mail!!!!
-
Okay, you two are officially going to hate me.

Sacrificial virgins to be deflowered can be left by the door. (GRIN)
Hey J, can Max 5 handle Max 3.1 .MAX files? Or should I just send you the resulting .MOD instead?
(and email me your current email addy that'll handle 1MB+ file attachments)...

Why???
Thanks man
-
That's along the line of "Because it took so little time to actually get across into a smaller poly level, and Sandman has been trying for weeks to get his down to a lower poly level, and this project has been waiting for this for so long, etc."
-
Well all I can say is lets see some
pics!!!
-
Just as soon as Sandman gets things done, I'm sure you'll see them.

Great Veterans?

Hey look J.. we're veterans now..
That means soon we can collect a pension. WooHoo!
And open the "Old Modellers Convelesance Home for Tottering Oldies" center where we can slide into senility and decrepitude.
Dibs on the cattle prod..

Bumping this up so I can find it easier...for tomorrow I post pics.
Hey Alec....how the hell did you get to convert properly?
Wait...don't you have a lwo to max plug-in?
I know I have it somewhere on my hd...just have to find it and see if it works in max5.
Anyway, I'll post some pics manana.

Manana!!!!
YEAH!!!!

I sort of do, but what I have simply converts over geometry and the mappings go out the window. I was able to convert this because I was able to convert over the MS3D mesh, and that's what worked. Mind you, I'll only have that ability for roughly 15 or so more days until my shareware copy of MS3D goes belly-up.. but hey, it allowed me to get this across for you, so it'd be worth it. One of these days I'd like to register it (Milkshape), but right now I have other priorities.
(Found out that the reason my van died was because the timing belt got all snagged up and kind of brought things to a screeching halt. So the $25 or so that could've potentially gone towards registering Milkshape has gone towards a new timing belt, and then it's some more hard labor in order to get that one pulley back straight and get the belt on and timing set before the temperature outside starts to drop to -40 and we *really* need a working van.) :/
-
bump...please
-
Sorry Azel.
I seem to be saying that alot these days...anyway, about 40% finished with it, but things should go smoother with Alecs conversion. I tried just applying what I had to the new mesh, but it's all out of whack. I can import max3 files, but the geometry is a little different. So, I've had to remap and make new templates for the textures. One question...the indented area on the neck...is that for photons or something else?
I will (really) post pics tonight...I will be working on it most of the day.
-
its a large view window from the looks of the pic
-
Cool! I experiment on making things in the window...cool!
See, I told ya I'd have some pics for ya.
Saucers just about done, just need to do the impulse drive. Speaking of the neck, you said you wanted the UFP symbol on it...what color, and which one? I'm thinking the wreath and star field symbol with the black background...have some other ideas involving the black, since the Challenger had a black bridge, to make it even out.
Here's what I have so far...

-
Wow thanks!!!
Cool Idea with the windows on the bridge module
as for the UFP symbol... seeing as the ship is a color mixture of like that olive drab(on the alien parts...Nacelles, interhull bridge, and impuse assembly) with standard Federation Grey... I say make the UFP symbol a purple-ish blue
Thanks again man!!!
-
A quick couple of pics...side shots, different lighting. Is this the color you want for the non-fed parts?

-
Aye!!!
Good color...I go with the top its darker...also if you can make the bridge color a dark charcoal grey(not so dark as black) so that it will be seen just a bit ... Thanks
-
OK, but it's the same color...I just rendered it in different lighting (the model that is). I'll see about darkening it up some, maybe lower the contrast level on the base layer. The bridge...pretty much the same I think.

-
OK...Great man Thanks
