IIRC, silicon-based life forms are brittle...

But I dunno jack without technobabble from a talking head with commander pips...

Anyhow, it looked too artificial to be the actual lifeform...

Hey Azel, have you ever read 'Expedition', by Wayne D. Barlowe? Your Neophyte reminds of an aliean from that called an Eosapien. It's cool.

Well sir , as we(humans) have yet to encounter a silicon-based organism that would be a hard assesment to conclude...as all the organisms on this planet are very different from each other in their "hardness" an "brittleness" while  most(if not all) are Carbon-based
As for it looking too mechanical...again donot be decieved by your own immediate conclusions based on outward "looks"...insects "look" and move with a mechanical "flavor" to them...as for the patterns on the "skin" of the organism...they maybe just that, patterns, like a zebra or tiger

So Azel:

Does your new species, the Neophytes, have anything to do with the Hellions? Perhaps they are an offshoot, similar to what the Romulans are to the Vulcans?

I'm just curious, as their ships share the "organic" look but are very dissimilar in design.

Funny you mentioned the Barlowe thing, Desty_Nova... I have always slobbered over his art for years... I recall one time a few months ago, when I first started talking to Atolm/Azel... I had told him 'you know something odd.. your work reminds me so much of this wscky genius guy W.D.Barlowe", and Azel said," why yes, he has been an influence on me for some time"... or something similar to that, pardon my paraphrasing...
gad, I about fell out of my chair....
I never met anyone who like Barlowe before, much less would apply said design philosophies to Star Trek Universe ships... after that, I guess that really sold me on any of Azel's works... just seems like one of the  pinnacles of creativity around here to think of something like that...

draft A complete Azel..

It's good to see that there ARE others who know of and appreciate the art of Wayne Douglas Barlowe. I have his book, "Expedition" as well and have poured over it many times.  I'm sure you all have too.

I'd love to see him do other books of an alien world theme. In one of his books he hinted at another world he was creating, but that was years ago. Who knows, maybe we'll all be surprised someday. Speaking of great art and if you the theme of weird creatures, another guy you might like is Dougal Dixon. He has several book out there kinda similar to "Expedition". Two titles are "The New Dinosaurs", about what might have happened if the dinosaurs never died out and "After Man", about the natural world million of years after Man has gone extinct (this book is a prequel of sorts to the Animal Planet miniseries, "The Future is Wild", which also has a companion book of the same title.)

"After Man" is still available but "The New Dinosaurs" has been out of print for a while and rare at that. If anyone is interested, try abebooks.com or alibris.com. Both sites great for locating rare and out of print books.

I own all of Barlowe's books and And Dougal Dixon's...In fact I have met Dougal Dixon before at a conference at my museum about 5 years back now.

Hey Azel, that's a cool pic there and so is that linked one. I've never seen before...are out from a Barlowe book?

Another Dougal Dixon fan!  Oh so cool! I've loved his stuff ever since I discovered "After Man" in a library years ago. Before the Internet and Amazon. I'd searched long and hard to find a copy until I saw the reprint edition on Amazon and quickly ordered a copy. BTW, have you heard of another (not Barlowe or Dixon though) book called "Future Evolution"? Its a newer book about Man's impact on the environment 10 million years from now.

But back to Dixon, I have three of his books: "After Man", "Man After Man" (there's a barely concealed complaint by Barlowe in one of his artbooks that Dixon stole his ideas to make this book), and "The New Dinosaurs".  Other than his straight-forward dinosaur books, are there other "imaginary animal" books I'm unaware of?

other than the "future is wild" Dougal did one other...the title evades me at the moment...but it will re-emerge...also the book that I am refering to is way out of print...been looking for it myself aswell

The Drawings are my originals I did them (the concepts) before I read Barlowe...But I see that he and I have come to some similar conclusions

You and Barlowe DO have like minds. Your stuff is great. You two should collaborate (seriously).

That book you're trying to think of, as soon as you remember, please let me know. I need a new obsession...

BTW: That title wouldn't happen to be "Time Exposaure" a.k.a. "The Age of Dinosaurs" would it?

NP...
Unfortunately Barlowe does not work in collaborations(he is to fearful of theft)

And will do

BTW Kaenyne...can you contact me on MSN under "Shipmaster666", or MSN under "Atolm" please...or just PM me???
