One version has It being the predecessor and or test bed of the Constitution class star ships. It is Listed as NCC 1371.
Was there anything ever drawn officialy to show what they looked like.

I only have the old SFC1 model and can only comment from what it looks like on my computer. Do you want the file?

Here's some info I ran across. This shows the Republic as being a dreadnought. Non-canon.

I don't know about the "Republic class" or if there is such a thing, but the USS Republic was mentioned in 1 or 2 episodes of TOS, the one I remember is "Patterns of Force" which is about those two planets having that computer war. They say in that episode that the USS Republic visited the planet 50 years ago.......so fandom attributed it to being either a Deadalus-class, Baton-Roueg-class, or the Mann-class (which only 1 source claims, and that is the early 1980's publication "Spaceflight Chronology".) Ironically, the Baton class was an item in that same book, and the book said it was the Connie predecessor. The Daedalus came in later fanzine when those TOS production drawings were released, and Mastercom Data Center included it in their master ship recognition chart and named both the Daedalus and the Baton as the Connie predecessors.....completely ignoring the Mann-class.
However, some people think the Republic mentioned in that episode was neither a Baton, Daedalus, or Mann but was in fact a Connie, because in the TOS episode "Court Martial" we see the Republic's name and registry on display as it being docked at the base. However...........it has a low reg number, 1371, so some say it may not have been a Connie. But then, official word from Paramount was that it is a Connnie in that episode.
Confusing eh?

Hmmm...Connie or a predecessor, she sounds intriguing.
The links are interesting and until now I'd never heard of her. Just when I thought I had Trek ships down pat...
And I'd wouldn't mind having a copy either.

Great stuff Atra

Thanks
My personal vote would be a Baton Rouge-class for two very selfish reasons...
First: its a very cool looking older design(that seemingly fits the bill)
Second: She has never been done/modelled for SFC...so it would be very cool to see one...
And if you guys don't like the Baton Rouge-Class Then create an proto Connie...that would Also be Cool
BTW I have modelled several of Matt Jefferies' TOS Enterprise prototypes...I am sure one of those ideas would also fit

Hey Azel!
'You have pics of those Jefferies prototypes?
But if it takes a lot of time to find and post 'em, don't worry.
My selfish self would rather have you spending your time finishing up those Hellions, Neophytes and Monsters!

I could scare those up ... Il post them later on tonight if Azel cannot...

Culled from several sources...

Oh yeah!
Those pics jogged my memory. I think I may have a couple of 'em in a book somewhere.
You can really see the evolution of his ideas for the Yorktown...er Enterprise!
I must say I like the final, final, final design best, that of the Regular TOS series version.
Thanks for digging these up Lord Schtupp!
