SFC3 has been blown up.
I have been running on my 2.6 ghz P4 with no graphics card for a while. Nothing but one of those integrated Intel Extreme graphics chips with shared memory...yeech. But it ran JK2 and SFC3, so I was happy. I finally got around to getting me a graphics card...a purdy dual-VGA 128 MB DDR GeForce FX 5200.
JK2 runs better than ever, but now SFC3 has self destructed. As soon as I launch a game (i can go through the menus and set one up, but when I hit launch...boom) it crashes and gives me an error. I've reinstalled, but to no avail. And yes, I repatched.
What in the galaxy is wrong with this *#@$ thing???

Hmm, have you updated with drivers from Nvidia's site (not MS's as they seem to hate game compatibility, even if they say their drivers are compatible...it seems half the time they are not).
Another thing to try is see if you can do an SFC 3 (run from the exe instead of a shortcut).
Otherwise, hope you can get it working.

I don't know what version of Windows you are running, but I
have had good success with Win2K and the latests drivers
from nVidia (version 52.16) using my FX 5900 Ultra.
You can pick them up the latest drivers here:
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
Thanks,
Dave

Windows XP Home Edition.
I have nVidia's drivers, along with nView, but I got them from a disk...there may be newer ones. I'll try that.

I have a similar setup. I also had to use a compatibility mode. (From my memory) Settings Win2K - no display themes - no advanced text.

Hey David
I live in Columbia.
What are you doing in this town?
-
Looking for work. Know anybody looking for a
programmer or IT guy? If you seriously do, drop
me a PM.
Thanks,
Dave

I'm willing to bet the 52.16 drivers are newer than the ones you have. Hope
they help.
Thanks,
Dave

I'll double that bet.

Installed them, no difference

I'll try compatability mode...

Whoopie! It worked! Game looks as good as ever, except with an even higher frame rate and shinier ships

Glad you're up and running.
