Here's where I started from.. very pretty.
Now that I had the mesh in Max.. I needed to decide whose parts to use. I settled on Khaliban's because I found it first on my HD.
I opened up the archive in a new directory, and then pulled the new parts into Max. I decided to start by removing the old TOS deflectors first (leaving the lit back to match a TMP style deflector) and then by refitting the nacelles, easiest to select and delete. Removed the top TOS nacelle, then the bottom, and then moved the new TMP nacelles into position. Took a render (trying a new 3 point lighting setup for renders at the same time)
Looks good so far.. so I decided to try replacing the saucer next.
Then moved the top of the saucer to match the forward positioning of the TOS version taking care not to stretch things too much (especially the registry)
I then removed the old impulse engines, and cloned the new ones once to give me two sets to match the TOS version..
Left this shot full sized so that you can also see another reason why I chose Khaliban's parts.. the level of detailing on his textures is just beautiful!
And after that, I started work on the new registries (which is where I am now)
Left to do, texture changes on the secondary hull (to update to TMP era), generate some color illumination maps to match the style on the new parts, and send it to Atolm when complete. He asked me to concetrate on this one, then to finish the TOS Excelsior (may raid this hull for the Excelsior because that secondary hull isn't behaving at all when it comes to texturing).

If I may, rescale the saucer with one warp engine attached to the FASA Larson, as it would make a great a FASA Larson Refit. PLEASE!
It would make a good sister ship to the Loknar Refit by Lt. Kevin Riley.

I'll upload the new pix as soon as I finish posting this so the Red X's will vanish.
Next to do, windows on the secondary, adding the ring around the deflector, finishing the new UFP pendant on the side, and lighting the new ass-end registry name.
Then it's changing the warp pylon vents to TMP style, and we're about done.

Which brings up a point, and one of the reasons why I hadn't added torpedo bays yet.. exactly how powerful is this going to be compared to the Big-E? Because I could add one set, two sets, or no sets.. just wanted to know how much to add without this becoming an uber-fanboy ship.

didn't get the torpedo bays on yet, but the secondary hull is now mostly complete. Going to move the greenspace down a bit though.
Bays and greenspace should be fixed tomorrow.. then the vents and finishing touches..

Awesome! The mesh didn't seem to change when I was looking at it, but then I wasn't looking at it in Max at the time either. Glad that it works now.
Gotta sure give Mackie the credit he deserves, he knows these textures inside and out and what they'll do. Another quick update.. the greenspace is moved, and the new torpedo pod is built. Wanted to try something a little different than what we've usually seen for this, so did something suitable. Not too many hints from this pic though. (grin)
So there you go, the mesh should be done now.. and it's just adjusting the lighting now to have my new stuff more match Khaliban's stuff on his saucer and the venting and we should be ready to upload..

So we're switching ISP's.. our current one shut things down because they had a problem with my wife running a non-profit web server (on Windows XP which has a web server built in by default, but they won't accept my argument). So we're going with another broadband provider because my wife now works for them and we get a 30% discount, free installation, and lots of good stuff to go with it.
Also, completed some initial weapons and planet textures.. and found an excellent program to help me get the shadowing done up right on them.. so as soon as we're back online, I'll post a bunch of lovely new pix. That New Orleans beauty shot made an excellent wallpaper as well..
