I've tried using the non beta version with dx9 patch, and the beta version and have the same result. when entering combat or a mission, I'm booted to the desktop with this message. This happens in Dynaverse or Single Player
"Sfc3.exe caused an Exception_Access_Violation in module d3d8.dll at 001B:02B482FD.
I'm running Windows XP pro and have a new ATI Radeon 9800. I'v updated my drivers with ATI also.
Can anyone help?

Right click on your sfc3 shortcut.. select properties.. click the compatibility tab.. put a checkmark in "Disable Visual Themes"
click on and play game....
hope that this helps.

 I want to thank you for helping with this after I had tried everything. Had a good laugh when I realized how easy a fix this was. Thought it was more serious. Did not even have to change to 16 bit Thanks again!
By the way, I have an almost identical system to the the other inquiree.
