Title: Newbie request for info on best solo OP mod.

I got into SFC 1 way back when.  I got dissolusioned with SFC 2 and its many issues.  I bought SFC 3 but I find the battles too slow and drawn out so I dropped out of playing these games.  I recently found OP in the bargain bin and was thinking of playing it.  So I have a couple questions.  First, does the Hand of Bethke happen in OP?  Second, since I think I'd find cartel battles not to my tastes is there an easy to install single player mod that will provide more "race based" battles.  I have looked at the forums and there seem to be many mods but lots of them discuss multiplayer issues (which I might try once I get better).  So what are the best solo mods? and could you provide a link?

Welcome back to the community!

For starters, get the latest OP patch 2552.  Check out this thread for locations: http://forums.taldren.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=210542&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

While there are cartel missions / campaigns , there are also missions / campaigns for all of the major races.

Then, head over to Firesoul's website: http://klingon.stasis.ca/  for many goodies: including the OP+ shiplist which adds a ton of ships to the shiplist and the enitre set of EAW single-player campaigns compiled for OP!  

I don't play with any single mod, I like to tweak et al myself, so I'll leave those opinions for others.

Thanks for the tips!  All of the SFC2 missions with cool ships!!  Great!!   Is the mystery exploding ship thing resolved in OP (Hand of Bethke I think it used to be called)?
