Title: The Official Taldren Chess Thread (Pic Intensive)
Post by: Fury_of_a_Seraph on June 17, 2004, 07:59:53 am
Now this is how it is going to work.

This thread will be for chess only, you post only to make a move. To make a move, you post something like this

Quote:

Black: Kings' Knight forward two, left one.

or

Quote:

white: queens bishop left down diagnal four.

Once you choose a color, keep with that color, No switching teams.

IMPORTANT

Once someone as posted a move, WAIT TILL I POST THE NEW IMAGE OF THE BOARD!!!!! DO NOT MOVE IMMEDIADTLY AFTER SOMEONE POSTS!!!!!! - this is important to post. If there are two posts by the same team to move a different way, I leave it to you to work it out, then delete the extra posts, once it is down to one post, i will post the board, then gameplay can continue.

Well here is the beginning...the layout of the board.

BTW: Klingons are Black, Feddies are white, the wood is black, the Blue Marble is white.

White: Queen's pawn forward 2.

The chess board and playing pieces should be in 3D not top down.

From who's persoective? White? Black? Side view? Or would it be from the current player to move's perspective (IE: toggle)?

If Black wants to move the Bishop on the Queens side 2 spaces digonally left , then you say Black: Queen's Bishop > King 7... I think. .

Just a nitpick but it the queen pieces shouldn't line up, I'm assuming they're the X-ships, anyway, they should both start on the same colour.

Neat idea. One thing . While we can all tell the bisop from a night from a rook at the start of the game by position. ONCE THEY ARE MOVED AROUND (sticky cap key)  it will be impossible to till a ki\night from a bishop as the sips are quite similar.

Actually its not that hard...
Light Cruisers are the Pawns, the BBs are Rooks, Battlecruisers are the Bishops, Heavy Cruisers as the Knights, and X-Cruiser as the Queen, and of course the station as the King.

maybe so. But I can't tell the difference between a battle cuiser and a heavy cruiser. In fact the Queen or King looks similar to the bisop to me. As all the ships appear the same size. Its confusing unless your a core TMP fan. I lean towards TNG  so there you go.

This is a fun idea. Also makes me wish they really had something like this. Maybe I'll make it out of SFB minis.

So who's got the next move?

Whoever wants to play black....

Again its not for two people, someone can make a move all the want, just eonce they are on a team they cant switch.

I will, but (and forgive me for this) I don't know the names of individual pieces. Like for example, if I want to move a pawn, how do I say which pawn?

black king pawn 1 forward

there you go, kinda like how Tus just did....once it gets going though you wont exactly know which is which, so you could always go with a grid system

btw seraph could you add a letter or a number to each pawn? (like king pawn could have a k in the corner) cause it could get very confusing later on

I'd like to suggest a guidline and that is if you pick a move for a side, you stick w/ that side and dont pick moves for the other.

This sfb chess with multiple players is a crazy fun idea, hehe.

I'm a little too tired to risk making a move, so I thought I'd share a link I found a while back that might be a thrill for some of the old SFB players...

Glinski's Hexagonal Chess (http://www.chessvariants.com/hexagonal.dir/hexagonal.html)

Dave McCooey's Hexagonal Chess (http://www.chessvariants.com/hexagonal.dir/hexchess2.html)

I'll see if I can get a move in tomorrow.

Take Care, and enjoy!
