Title: Constitution Refit Updated
Post by: Wicked Zombie on July 22, 2004, 03:39:47 am
The ol' E didn't exactly need an upgrade, but since I have a few variants that use standard Connie parts I figured they should at least be up to date. I tweaked a number of areas on the ship, mostly with the textures, and replaced the bridge with something more accurate. There's also a set of Enterprise A textures included along with a set of blanks.

This last one was inspired by one of Desty Nova's recent renders:

Man that is Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet ;D

You do some nice work.

One if if I may.. the light on the side of the ship illuminating the UFP Logo, I think it would look better if it illuminated a little bit more too sort of spreading down the line aswell?

what do you think..

Apart from that WZ your work is flawless and extremely clean... Love it.. you are an insperation to us all! ;D

Hey, maybe it's just some tweaking, but it's still a new version of the Connie! That makes my day!   :D

She's beautiful!

Heheh, you may or may not be expecting this.. but how compatible is this mesh going to be to the Lethality?  I'm thinking "refit for my personal flagship" time looking at this puppy.. ;)

(Always did prefer the 'Lethe' minus the rear gunnery position, but that's just because of the purpose I use it for.. but loved the textures on the original 'Lethe' so much they became the basis for my flagship's.  :)

Beautiful job WZ.. she's going to be a beauty to fly.  ;)

Doh! Now I gotta redo all my kitbashes to send to Rogue LOL. I can't really tell the mesh difference in the bridge although the hull texture below the neck is a major improvement

Good work WZ.  Even if I don't notice a whole lot of difference, it's enough to be noticed a bit.

Just a question or two... Are you going to update other TMP-era ships you made to at least include blanks?  And are you planning to work on any more ships of that era or... What? *shrug* Only curious on your schedule, that's basically it.

The lighting setup and paint schemes tend to vary from each movie that the Connie appears in - most notably the E-A version has more white/green to the color. Some shots have the logos fully lit, some just the delta. Since that part of the ship is supposed to be lit by the forward warp engine lights, I figured it would make more sense instead of them having the exact same shape as the logo (like a few shots in TWOK).

It should be fairly compatible with the Lethality, at least as far as the mesh goes. I actually ripped the Lethality's tweaked shuttle bay off to replace the Connie's. Both are the same basic model with alterations anyway.

I don't plan on updating all my Fed ships with blank textures since most use the Connie set as a basis.

The old bridge was too pointed in the back, whereas the new one is more squared off. Luckily these changes won't have to be incorporated into the rest of my fleet as I can just write those off as variants - the easy way out....

Are the Diamond Star or Excalibur in that Fed upgrade lineup?

The Excalibur is unlikely since there's already a nicely done version that was ported from BC.

Yeah, that Excalibur is a good one, but not a Mark I or Mark II.   :)

So...Diamond Star (a fixture in my fleet, BTW) is "going under the knife"?

I wouldn't go that far since she's been on the operating table for almost a year now. Other less consuming projects tend to draw me away from the remake.

Since the Connie got a few improvements, her old Klingon adversary hasn't been left out. I replaced the wing logos with something less colorful and more accurate:

She looks marvelous. IMHO, the finest Constitution a man can get for Starfleet Command. P81's is still probably the gold standard in TMP Connie's but this one is just too much. Since you have gone this far with it do you think you might add an LOD feature to the model? And about that Klingon cruiser... I compliment the new textures but do you think the warp nacelles look a little thin?
Title: Re: Constitution Refit Updated
Post by: Wicked Zombie on July 22, 2004, 06:06:40 pm
They might be a bit thin but they're fairly close. The D7 has thicker engines than the TMP K'tinga so that may be the reason they look slightly off.

I don't have any plans for LODs since they take too much time to create and retexture - it's practically building a whole new ship all over again (if you want them to work properly anyway).

Thanks for saying so. Just wanted to know we are paying attention and giving you some feed back. Thanks for the models that you do. They make SFC better.
