I dont use v3 i use v5... the only thing i can think off is are you using the correct plugin for v3 and not v4... to be honest I dont know the difference but this is all that springs to mind!!

this seems to be a driver problem, i had the same problem with some drivers for my old GForce 4 TI 4600 but never had this problem with my Radeon 9800 Pro

Well I've got Radeon 9600 - still can't see any problems. Howewer V3, V4 had some in the past with
MAX ver 3 :(

I have 9800XT PRO 256mb... with the latest drivers... an mine works fine...

try what Terra said... update to your latest GFX drivers for your particular card!! ;)

Don't forget to install newest Direct X package after that. This should resolve some graphic problems :)
