So, as some of you know I'm involved in the Civil Air Patrol, which is the Auxiliary to the US Air Force. We do SAR stuff, teach leadership and aerospace education. This past week was our summer "Encampment". (Basically an 8-10 day CAP boot camp). I was tasked with being the Standards/Evaluations officer. What this meant is that I went around making sure things were 'up to snuff' so to speak.
I got word that my team was supposed to be 4 people, my senior officer (the adult supervisior, I'm 18) and two other people, a friend Nathan and another friend of mine Chris. A couple weeks and many phone calls later, Chris is traded for a girl from New York named Raquel. Oh great, I think just what I need. Someone from out of state (we call them "Wings") that doesn't know what she's doing. So I gave my e-mail / AIM name to the correct people and she got in touch with me. She seemed nice enough, knew I was her OIC evern though she technically outranked me. Nothing so bad.
So I finally meet her, and she's 4'10" 112 pounds of cute. (shes 19). As the week goes by, I realize she is probably the most squared away individual I've met in a LONG time. We immediatly clicked and synch'ed with each other. We were always on the same page, always. I could trust her to do anything (I functioned as the Support Staff Officer In Command, as I stepped up to it). If I asked her to do something, she usually had it done already. We had the most beautiful working relationship, and we truly became friends throughout the week.
Now, I've been to 4 of these encampments including my basic one as a cadet. I have never been as upset as I was to leave a group of people as I was at the end of this week. It was truly amazing. I don't know what else to say. It was just one of those times when two people meet and immediately trust each other (and I'm not one to trust easily). It was truly a beautiful thing to witness.

Good luck with this one, man... not often you hook up at Basic- at least not and get away with it (Drills watch you CLOSE in the movie theater :P).

Work and romance is sort of like tapdancing in a minefield. Sooner or later, you'll step on one and blow your ass off.

It isn't so much that I want to have some kind of romantic thing with her, it was just amazing how quickly we became good friends.
Oh, and it wasn't really basic for me. I've been to the camp 4 times, and I've held a variety of staff positions. This was just the first time I met her.
