Title: May as well kick this child board off.. WIP shots as of 0809..
Post by: atheorhaven on August 09, 2004, 10:45:27 pm
As usual, a few on the go..

First, the Lief Ericson
(http://www.the-tcs.net/_hosted/atheorhaven/imgs/lief_wip_1.jpg)

Next, some of Mackie's

Pogues
(http://www.the-tcs.net/_hosted/atheorhaven/imgs/pogues_1.jpg)

Juster
(http://www.the-tcs.net/_hosted/atheorhaven/imgs/TMP_Juster_1.jpg)

Alamo
(http://www.the-tcs.net/_hosted/atheorhaven/imgs/TOS_Alamo_2.jpg)

Then I also have the fix for those engines on KF's requested Imperium, Nanner's mystery ship, and some SFC 2 releases of G@W ships in the works..

My usual busy lineup of stuff.. :)

It is, it's sitting at 17500 polies after the conversion.  If it's going to be used ingame, there's definitely going to have to be some weight taken off...

are you considering rebuilding it entirely your self or are you just gonna trust maxes crappy chopping tools  :P ;D
and yes im hinting here that i could try to help you a bit with it if you want, drop .3ds + textures of it in a zip under ships/themissingfilesbox/ on ftp if you like :)

Ok.

I WANT THE ERICSON in a bad, bad way.  :o

I gotta now start dreaming up specs for this beauty.

Should be something unusual for a "mystery ship", but still be play balanced against heavy CA's.
     Definately a cloak.
Should have some funky PF's for the hanger (maybe PF's with a few cargo spots, phasers, and no heavy weapons).
Maybe an "R" torpedo with a pair of photons?
    maybe 8 p2's. . . .

;D :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

So I prowled the web. . . .the Leif was the basis for the MacArthur from Mote In God's Eye  :o ?

WOW. . .now how on earth do we model langston (pardon spelling) shield generators in SFC?. . . .

. . .but seriously. . .I am still thinking an Early TOS type ship. The sub type con speaks to me of Cloak, and that big shield upfront tells me this ship should have some armour and dubious maneuverability. . .hanger with scout ship (make it a PF with 2 P2's and a few cargo. . ) Perhaps add stealth. . .

An early TOS CA would be overgunned with a "R" torp and two photons. . .so I might say a four photons and eight P2s (2 of which cover the rear) . . a secondary shuttle bay with 4 shuttles for weasel work. . .

. . .make hull reasonably thick (6 forward, 10 rear?). . . maybe 20ish shields and 15ish armour. . .38 warp, 6 impulse but a bad turn mode a 1.25 move cost. . . .

. . .so this would be like a Fed CA except thicker and slower. . .Good match for early Fed/Rom/Gorn/ISC.. .I don't see this as a missle ship . . .(although. . .with that hanger bay. . . can you launch 6 scatter packs simultaneously?)

ok. . .ok. . .I will stop drooling now. . . .

I can tell you that this mesh was an actual model kit approx 14" long (AMT?) in the early 70's (I built it lol! ;D) with glow in the dark parts, Included a cool little shuttle that fit inside the working bay at top. Very cool mesh!

I rarely check out the modelers forum but clicked "View 10 Most Recent Posts".

Thank you for bringing back a great childhood memory! When I first saw your ship I thought...I've seen that before! (I see someone beat me to the discovery). It took a while before I could access incredibly old data files stuck in the corners of my brain. I built that ship over 30 years ago. I bought it because it said "Glow In The Dark" on the box. Man I'm old.

No offense, but I always thought that design was pretty lame...even back then. Can't remember the name of the model....Alien Ship? or Mystery Ship? I always thought it looked like a cross between a SR-71 Blackbird, and a 50's U.S  submarine with a Downy Soft fabric bottle tossed in the middle. When I was a kid building that model with Testor's Glue (man I hated that stuff) I never dreamed that 30 year from then I could fly the bloody thing in simulated space.

You HAVE to design the ship that fits inside the doors of the main ship. Thanks again for resurrecting a great memory from my past.

BTW...it's Leif Eriksson. As in Erik's Son. It's a Scandinavian thing. Ole's Son-->Olson, Peter's Son-->Peterson, etc. Uff Da! (Norske saying).

Very cool Tirus - U sound almost as old as me lol - just to clairify i didnt build the mesh (wish I had), just the model long ago back in smallville  ;D  - A favorite mem was taking the model outside in the sun to really charge up the glow plastic, then going into a closet to to play with the model boy was it bright you could read by it! Anyway You're right T design was kinda funky the little shuttle included in the kit was real sweet.

Once agian the mesh looks awesome - great job!! Build the shuttle!!!

I was going to okay it first, but had planned on using PolyChop or some other tool.. but if you're offering your Lightwave Workout Plan That Burn Off The Calories and lighten the Ericsson up a bit to get 'er down to 5000 polies, I'm certainly not going to turn that down.  ;)  Just give me a day or so to try and sort out which textures are missing and to try and create replacements, then I'll send it over to you in a .MOD format (because then I won't have the 8.3 filename issue happening before you get the mesh to try and sort out).  :)

Glad that you're looking forward to this one Tirus.. but I'm not the one to thank for this one.  :)  That'd be Raventree as per this thread:

http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163344632.0.html

What I'm helping to do is simply to convert over a .COB file and the textures to a format that'll run in SFC.  I'm doing that, but Raventree should be thanked for finding the mesh in the first place.  :)

But depending on how similar the shuttle/scout is to the Eriksson, I may be able to kitbash that and release it as well.  :)  And Raventree will also get a copy of both (if I can get both across or kitbashed)to forward back to the original mesher so that they can enjoy looking at their work in a 3d enviornment.. (will send along a link to ModViewer for the mesher to d/l as well)..

See?  It's canon.  ;)  Well, not really.. but designed by Jeffries, which is why I offered to help on it.  :)

MOD is more flexible in this case because some of the textures have longer names than 8.3.. and convertng it down to .3ds gave me rename msgs, and I think it was on illumination maps.  Let me see if I can export it into any other format, then convert it to LWO.  Or, come to think of it.. I may have a way to do it directly from MOD to LWO.
