Title: Off-topic, but I need someone to SEE it, lol. Eve?
Post by: FPF-AJTK on August 17, 2004, 06:12:19 pm
Hey, I dloaded the program at work today and I am thinking about giving it a try. I WOULD ask some of you that I see playing Eve on TS but you all have passwords for your rooms so I CANT! ;P

Whats the deal with it. A brief synopsis would be nice. Would I be able to join up with one of the Corporations that all the SFC types are in, etc.

Moderators, plz cut me some slack here, If I put this in OFF Topic no one will see it most likely. Thanks.

Get hold of Hobbes. He was playing it last I looked. I've seen it described as the prettiest game you never really play, but others say it's good. If you can find a actual Eve player they can send you a free demo that lasts for a week I think. Hobbes sent me one, but I've never gotten around to using if for some reason.

I've been playing Eve Online for a couple weeks now.

Graphics?  Out of this world.

There are no hexes to jump.  You warp or jump through stargates.

You have to do a lot of "learning" by buying books and "reading" them in order to obtain skills.

It is a game of patience.

The game itself is not hard, however, it is very indepth and takes time.

You are not fighting all of the time, unless you want to be.  LOL!!!

There is a fourteen day free trail running until the end of August.  After that you will pay $14.95 for the first month, then you can pay for six month for $65 which averages out to about $11 a month.

Is it worth it?  <snicker>  Heck, yes!!!!

Okay, played with the SSCF last night, this game is pretty awesome. Of course, ala UO you have to do alot of money making prior to doing anything else, so it may get boring. Of course, thats just what you have to do to advance.  You can do other things of course, but they arent as safe as mining, at least when your in the EVE version of a police ship, lol.

It is all nice and purty 3D and I gotta say, SFB/C would be a total WHOOT to play that way, but also a MAJOR pain in the ARSE for targeting, etc.

It was great seeing you online, AJ.

I do get a lot of housework done when I'm mining, but I do have to remember to check my cargo hull every minute or so to empty it.  LOL!!!

Well, I still have the K-mart special mining laser, so it takes me bout 5 minutes to fill up my miniscule cargo hold. Hey, in the system we were in last night, they were giving 5.10 isks for VELDSPAR?! They were only giving 1.84 for tritanium, wtf is up with that? Or is that like a "starter system" and they give alot for veldspar as it is easiest to mine and so you can build cashe quickly?

I dialed up my lvl 3 frig training last night, gonna take 19hrs, be done bout 8pm tonight when I get back online, lol.

Oh well, at least I can get ALOT of training done during GW3!  ;D

Howdy folks,
Yes, EvE is an absolutely increadible game.  I've been playing since march and have become completely hooked on it.  The game definately has a learning curve and isn't for the impatient.  However, once you get past some boring parts the world really opens up to you.
If anyone needs any help/advice/3-day buddy code please feel free to get in contact with me.  My in-game name is Danks and right now I'm chillin' doing a freelancer thing.

I downloaded the beta test versa a while back...installed it...and never once ran the actual program...lol.

I am interested though..especially since so many here are playing it.  Maybe I'll look into it again.  Perhaps FlufBot (or someone) can post the 14-day trial linky?

Danke...

Yeah, looks damned cool. I used to play this game called Starflight I and II. Wonder if they are making III?

But this captures the similar feel of wide open exploration and discovery... I like open ended space adventure role plays. Very cool stuff. It looks like it goes far beyond the rock paper scissors of SFC.

Dunno if I like the time consuming part... thats the beauty of SFC, quick and dirty fights. I dont like investing a lot of time reading books and mining ore... c'mon. Thats retarded. Same as starting off a D2 campaign in a Frig and have to work up to a cruiser thats 50k. Ridiculous.

Other than that, it looks spectacular. I wonder how much time is needed to invest b4 it gets fun.

Looked at the factions playable... I like this one the best:

Gallente

The Gallenteans. Self-righteous, meddling, pompous and tiresome, or virile liberalists and defenders of the free world. Love them or hate them, you simply can't ignore them. Everybody has an opinion on the Gallente Federation, it all depends from which side of the table you view them. For many, it is the Promised Land, where any dream can become a reality. Descendants of Tau Ceti Frenchmen, the Gallenteans remain strong believers in free will and human rights, despite numerous setbacks in their long history.[/list]

Might just try it myself.

So fluf has some sort of corporation going where all the other D2 neophytes are his cronies? Whats the story on that?

Oh, and are there asteroid fields peeps can run into where their ships explode? Can you buy a ship with a tractor beam that can 'grab' other ships? That'd be neat...

Starflight is awesome!   I'd play that now if i could find a version that worked on a modern OS.

It's not for everyone, but I really love it.  Been playing since march, tried out most aspects of the game.  For me the PvP was most exciting.  Unfortunately for me I left my corporation/alliance right before the biggest fleet battle to date... something like 180 ships.
Eve is a world of freedom.  You can do whatever you want, it's really up to you.  Of course, that means you also have to look out for scammers, griefers, and thieves  ;)

You actually have to pay to be able to play it online though even after you buy the game?

The game download itself is free. To play online, however, ya gotta pay up after yer fourteen-day free ride expires :P

Right now, they are offering a 30 day freebie, but I cant seem to get into the secure site...

Anyway, I change my mind. If you have to slave in boredom for 72+ hours straight b4 u ramp up to being able to have any mediocre level of fun...

I have 3x games on the horizon I will not miss... and no doubt it will cut into my SFC time, but I wont quit playing it. So I dont have time for the time it takes 'level up' on EVE.

"Rome: Total War" looks cool. :D

"Simpson also tells us that Rome: Total War is "more moddable than any other game we made before." That means that, on top of the half-dozen historical campaigns in the game, and on top of the different playable cultures you can unlock by beating it (the Britons, the Egyptians, the Gauls, etc.), the Internet community will be able to create their own units and their own scenarios. The result is a deep, visually incredible strategy game that'll provide months, even years of delicious gameplay online or off."

If WH40K turns out to be as modable as Medieval/Rome Total War, then it will likely gobble up tons of my time... hehe. WH40K has so much background info on it, its a whole world in its own right. Gothic, scary, morbid and frightening... it's gonna be so much fun, I think.

Having played the DoW beta I can say it's a lot of fun. Although the Orks take some getting used to .
If they make it modable, or even plan out expansion packs well it will go from a game I'm going to want to buy
to a game I'm going to have to but. Haven't played many of the 'Total War" series. Just picked up a used Shogun TW at EB.Seems to be cool but the pdf manual seems damaged/corrupt .(It won't open). So I'm not really sure what I'm doing..

The real question is why are yoy guys letting these games interfere with you SFC time.

Get your priorities straight for crying out loud.   ;)

Very cool. Didint know u were a DoW tester. Have to ask u some questions later. ;)

I have shogun too. Very cool game. Have to glance over the manual tho... It's very nearly playable w/o it, but there are just a few things you have to know... Go here: http://www.totalwar.com/community/download.htm to get all the latest D/Leds and patches. I cant get u the manual now, but soon, but try asking someone in the forums there in the meanwhile. They love to help. They will get u one. Forums: http://p223.ezboard.com/fshoguntotalwarfrm1
