Been meaning to ask and keep forgetting?where did the Prometheus in your sig come from. Caught my eye partially because of her namesake. I'm a big fan of H.P. Lovecraft's works. Always thought Star Trek and the Cthulhu mythos would be a neat crossover.

They are made from in game screen shots, using GAW 1.5, F9th Ryker then does all the resizing and adds text insignia and ribbons.

Yeah, it's a screenshot of the model used in Nanner's Generations at War 1.5.1 mod for Starfleet Command 3.

Kaeyne, I think we talked about it before, but all too sparingly- I LOOOOOVVVE the Mythos, or at least Howie's version... Derleth did fine too, but it grew a Judeo-Christian swing after a time... which is fine, but his original vision of them had them as titanic primal forces, not able to be stopped by mere symbols. As so I thought, according to H.P. Lovecraft, The Ancient Ones/Old Ones could only be halted by the Elder Gods, but they were lost in/on Kadath.
If you want, you should contact Klingon Fanatic, he knows more about the Mythos than I do, and I thought I was a pro on it- he's a lot of fun to chat with too...
I always thought Azel's Hellions and Neophytes were pretty darn close to Mythos dieties/races.... they are very cthonic-looking. I have them all, if you want them sometime.

Hey, more HPL fans! That's a nice surprise as I've never met another one in person myself in my circles. Even today's horror fans (i.e. younger than my 31 years) are apparently ignorant of the "father of modern horror".
I confess I do like some of Derleth's work, but not all. However, there are other more recent names like Brian Lumley who have done a pretty decent job, IMHO, of capturing that sense of dread of which the master himself was so adept. Then there are others However, I see no reason not to continue such a rich universe and add to it. Heck, just look at Star Trek... :)
I think "At the Mountains of Madness" is up there with "Frankenstein" and "Dracula" as one of the best examples of the genre. (A little trivia-there is talk in Hollywood about HPL's masterpiece being helmed by "Hellboy" director Del Toro, that is currently on the backburner but a real possibility)
Another tale I love is "Dagon". Much shorter but no less powerful. But that is just the tip of the proverbial iceburg.

I think that Derleths stuff tends to be too easy of an ending, not enough dread and fear kind of too good of an outlook.

I'm not a fan of nice, tidy endings myself. HPL tended to conclude his tales with that sense of dread but it also sent a message to me as a reader that humankind itself is very much a infinitesimal part of the Universe, and that there are MUCH bigger things, both literally and figuratively, in this existence that he created as a means to put us in our place so to speak. We are foolish to think of ourselves as the superior species. There is a LOT of room out there?and the span of time between the beggining of everything and today is too much for the human mind to grasp. And in that time were multitudes of civilizations both great and small, those that prospered and those that died. Among those that thrived and may still thrive today, are to us as we are to the insects. I believe HPL wanted conveyed this view as a lesson we as a species need to learn and is present within much of his work.
