I installed SP2 and my computer slowed down to a crawl. I uninstalled it and it is still way too slow. It is a realy pig compared to what I had before I downloading and installing SP2.
What can I do to fix this problem? Is there a security setting I can modify? Should I reinstall windows? I would appreciate some advice!

If you have a 64-bit processor, there are known problems with SP2 and those type of processors. I had a problem myself with it. Had to uninstall it.

I uninstalled it and it is still causing problems. It is driving me crazy!!!!

i would like to know any tid bits there are on it as well because sp2 certainly did not speed up my puter either....

Guys, I'd urge you post a public thread in the General Forums or in Ten Forward asking for the help of Pestalence or Barabbas. I think those guys, even if they don't know right off how to help, they can figure it out.
Anyhow, just tonight, I got a popup from XP saying that it had just auto-d/l'd a Windows update. Thank God I did not set it on auto; I always have it ask me first before installation because it was the SP2 update. I had already heard about it, so I did not install it.
Now after reading this thread, I might even go look for it on my HD and delete it.

You can't uninstall it. That's what programmers call a feature. Afterall, why would you want to uninstall it? Well, sorry it's causing you problems but I'm sorry I rather likes living on your computer.

maybe you need to clean up your hd by formating it, it remind me of mc cafee antivirus, it was slowing my com that i have to remove it so it will work at normal speed, with win xp to work at an acceptable speed you need at lest 10 gig of free space, it will work with 8 or 9 but 10 is bether, so you need a big hd to run win xp (like anything from microsoft the more you use it the more trouble it cause on your com) but your stuck with it cause the altenative are not always good for you.

I put it in and lost all my desktop items exe.s etc.
I couldn't access anything, all I had was my wallpaper. A total hard disk wipe was needed. >:(

Of course you can uninstall SP2. I have done it twice. Just as you can uninstall all the hotfixes.

I just installed it last night, no problems.
Try turning off the XP firewall if you haven't already. That may help.

I've got an AMD XP system and I've had no problems. (2800+).

I'm running a Pentiiun IV 2.4 GHz, 2 gig memory, 6 HD's, 2 DVD RW's, a ZIP, Radeon 128, plus a few bells and wistles, and haven't had any probs..but I did d/l the 260 Meg network version when told about here..

Indy - see if you can get hold of a copy of Windows 2000. Much better and more stable than XP.
