Argh! I got a new computer, a Dell running on Windows XP and seemed to install the game just fine. However, when I run the game to play for the first time, I have to type in the serial number. For some reason I'm not able to type in the box.
Anybody know what's going on?

I had the same problem...seems xp and op have a prob when the movie is played in the beginning. Open windows explorer, go to where you have op installed, for me it's local disc>program files>taldren software inc>starfleet OP...open the file...there should be an executable named StarfleetOP...or similar...double click and should be able to go from there. If you're able to input your serial, then use that as your startup shortcut. Hope this helps...been a while since I had to do this. :P

Grah! That just freks it out! It opens the authorization page and then it dumps out. The program still runs but the window where I have to put in the CD # is stuck in the upper left hand corner but that doesn't matter as the mere two seconds later it reduces itself to the bottom tool bar.

Sorry it didn't help...here's a thread I found discussing this problem...

You must run the game by StarfleetOP.exe. This will as I remember run the game without the movie and thew keyboard will work fine. BTW WinXP has option to disable this feature and you can normaly run the game but I have forgoten where this feature was available in the XP *couch* :)

@#$%%!
I switched my shortcut to "C:\Program Files\Taldren Software Inc\Starfleet Command Orion Pirates\StarFleetOP.exe" but that just drops me into the Bink Video Player after the computer tries to load the game. Could it be a drivers problem?
According to my compurer's specifications, I have an "integrated Intel 3D Extreme Graphics" for what they call a "Video Controller".

Okay! I think I may have it! I went to the "Windows Update" page and downloaded some new drivers. I don't know if that was th ereason or if I just had a stroke of good luck, but that seemed to do the trick. I managed to punch in the disk # and can now play!
Thanks so much guys! It was really ticking me off that THE ONE game I really want to play wasn't working!
Now if I can get the keys to work... :) (See my new thread "So close...")
