Title: The flag game.
Post by: Just plain old Punisher on October 23, 2004, 02:46:59 am
Since we have so many military history buffs in here, let's play a little game called identify the flag.

Each flag shown here was used at one time or another by units of the active or reserve military of that nation. The rules are you must identify the nation, and the specific type of flag (IE Battle flag of the New York volunteer regiment). Sometimes a given flag may not denote a specific unit (IE for example Royal Navy battle flag)

Here's our first flag:

First one is the Iron Cross of Germany, the Admiral's flag to be exact.

Second is the Castles and Lions flag Columbus used representing Castille and Leon

The Third flag is that of Columbus' fleet,  The Crowned F for Ferdinand, the Crowned Y for Isabella, and the cross inbetween the two.

The Fourth, the Fleur de Lis with a white background is the "Buorbon Banner", used by the french before the french revolution.

The Fifth has me stumped..... :-[

The first one was also the national marking for German and Austro-Hungarian aircraft during the first half of WWI. During 1917 it was changed to the more familiar version as was used on aircraft and armor in WWII.
