Gentlemen,
Today the real world struck a blow to our Fleet.
Markus Heinrik was an Admiral in the XIth and a Soldier. He was killed in an ambush in Iraq.
"Markus was more than a member of the online community we all knew through the Internet. He was our friend, our companion? our brother. He made the ultimate sacrifice for the one cause he valued more than his life. He served his country to the death. He has done his duty. May he rest in peace and may God forever guide his soul".
- Admiral Bishop, XIth Fleet.
Please join us in our prayers for his friends and family.

very sorry to hear this.

sad new indeed. I can't say that i know the man, but it will be a lose to this community because that kind of dedication isn't just picked from trees.
btw as a request, does anyone happen to have his bio (accomplishments while he was in the service etc?) and would they be willing to post it here for the community to see?

Well said. The loss of any of our men or women over there is one loss too many.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the man's family- both by blood and the one he had here- and to his unit.
And when he gets to heven,
Saint Peter he will tell,
"Another soldier reporting, Sir-
I've spent my time in Hell."
-
From One Soldier to a Another. Our hearts and prayers are with your family.
-
I am really sorry to hear this. My God bless and protect him and his family

For what it's worth, I used to know an old man I admired by the same name, but spelled differently, Marcus Heinrich, a man of integrity.

I'm saddened by your loss. Hopefully this war will come to a resolution soon and we can stop losing our young men and women over there.

There will be a "memorial service" on 30/10/04 at 15:30 EST.
It's being held on the XIth Fleet TS who's address is 66.215.182.154
All are welcome.

Ah Christ, I thought Age or one of the sfc3 crowd would have posted this:

If this turns out to be true, someone deserves a beating.

Well my calendar is now open saturday afernoon. I guess I'll be raking leaves or cutting the lawn now. Perhaps both. Thanks for posting the link. Interesting reading.
-
Well, instead of thinking kind thoughts of "Marcus", I guess I'll spend the afternoon thinkng kind thoughts about the 11th instead. It seems they were treated very unfairly by one of their members.

Actually it's at 2 of their members right now as if you check the rest of the stuff open on their site, their British connection "bishop" wasn't coming clean on what he knew and they were telling him to spill his guts. That was earlier in the day.

Well,
It would seem that someone finds it entertaining to make light of the service and sacrifice of our troops in Iraq.
All I can do is apologise for the part I played in allowing yourselves to be duped into believing this lie.
I had no reason to doubt it at the time of posting.
The people I spoke with seemed genuinely shaken and upset.
Though I acted in good faith, I can't help but feel sickened that I basically helped someone pull off a trick that is disrespectful to yourselves as part of a thoughtful and caring community, as well as insulting to the men and women who served and are serving right now in Iraq.
I'm very sorry gentlemen.
Please feel free to visit the boards to see what is being done about this.
With deepest regret.

All I can think to offer you Azrael, is don't be sorry for having trusted in people who you thought were your friends and fleetmates, they are the ones who should be sorry.
-
If it has been confirmed that it was a hoax (I haven't read all of the posts here or else where), then probably the best thing to do is just delete this thread, IMO. Far less offensive threads have had that done. The person who perpetrated the hoax probably gets pleasure out of seeing all the attention it's drawing.
If what I've read is true, that this act is actually a federal offense, he/they will probably be getting more attention than originally bargained for.
Azreal, No foul on your part. You were just an unwitting msgr.

It was a hoax.
