Title: More from SFB R9: Conjectural Romulan Tugs, Thu11s-style
Post by: FireSoul on October 25, 2004, 10:16:45 pm
I've been continuing with my quick kitbashes to provide models for my mod, as I need them. At this point, I've reached the Romulan tugs in the books, and these are what I've come up with, using Thu11s' models as source. Please note that all pods are based on the Klingon pods, as per the books.

SparrowHawk-T Light Tactical Transport, Conjectural:

While the Romulans never built this LTT, it was made available in module R9 for players who choose to build them as part of their Campaigns. It's an unbuillt variant, but not marked as "Impossible". The structures in the wings are internal cargo bays. They are collapsible to house and hold 2 pods if necessary, however it is not as efficient as a single pod underneath the ship with these built-in pods in use. This method was made avaialble for cases where non-cargo pods can be transported despite the fact the pods would be disactivated during transport.

FireHawk-T Fleet Tug, Conjectural:

As with the SPT, the FH-T has collapsible cargo bays to carry pods. It is more efficient to carry a single pod under the ship than it is to carry 2 cargo pods with the bays. However, the ship itself sports heavy cruiser armament, and adding a single battle pod, which doesn't affect the movement cost nor turnmode, is definitely a force to reckon with. As a BattleTug (BT), it has 2xPLaF, 3xPLaS as main armaments.

I seriously doubt the roms would use a warship design as a tug. Course, that may be straight sfb, but I wouldnt use a warship mod and then add pods to it and call it a tug. Btw, why are you going with the stock Klink cargo texture color? That color is an ugly train wreck a mile long, bro. ;)

Check out the Lyran Cougar Fleet Tug, even without the Battle Pallet it has about 90% of the firepower of the Tiger Cruiser. Add the Battle Pallet and it gets pretty mean. If you need stuff moved to the front line I'd rather use a tug capable of defending itself rather than a Phaser armed freighter  ;D

Thu11s :)

 ;D BUMP to the top.

Thank you Firesoul.

Thank you Thulls.

Naturally, I will be using the Atrahasis/Ganymad/QobnuH textures on these.

Qapla!

How about using the "cargo pod" from the stock Romulan Freighter?
(Well, I think that's cargo pods...)

That looks like a warp engine or deflector of some sort. Great work on the other ships but I'm not really keen on the designs.

The new texturing looks fine ...

but ...

they do tend to lean more toward a battle cruiser design as opposed to a cargo ship.

One thing about it ..   the enemy would probably hesitate in attacking it (not knowing for certain as to what they were up against!)
