Title: Oh dear God...
Post by: Clark Kent on October 26, 2004, 12:26:09 pm
I'm watching ST:TNG on Spike right now, and it's the first episode.  The thing that trips me out os the guys in skirts.  It's just plain wrong man!!!

I think the reason, I initially didn't care for the show, was That half way through the Pilot episode, They Signaled there surrender. Forever etching in my mind, Picard as an appeaser.

I think I agree with you.  He defiantely didn't have the boldness and cunning of his predicessor.  The main fault TOS had was it's cheesy plot lines and dialogue (came with the time it was made), and the poor special effects to today's standards.  I think that's why I always look to the first ST movies as my favs.  They had decent enough special effects, and the characters and plotlines Iliked.

Nor was that the last time Picard surrenderd during the first season.  It was only an episode or two later that he surrendered again to the Ferengi.  I'd make a joke about Picard's ancestry, but that would be rude.

He didn't become a real captain until after the Borg had him for a while.  And even then he was still soft.

PS:  I remember those men walking down the corridor in miniskirts.  I think that was supposed to be a PC "correction" of TOS, where the women's uniforms were miniskirts.  "Look!  It wasn't a sexist uniform!  The men in the Federation wear skirts too!"

They needn't have bothered filming that.  We Gorn have always known that men in the federation wear skirts.

They looked cute in those skirts...and Jean-Luc Picard is ten times the man Kirk ever was...

Notice that despite surrendering he always won in the end...

Please not another Kirk Vs Piccard debate. We all know that Kirk would have died from VD after the first few episodes lol

What's wrong with that?  I'd do him if and Sean Connery in a heart beat.  Well, OK, only after I beg Ferret for it . . .

Not necessarily...but then again Kirk was never one to play it safe (while this Kirk insists on certain safety measures).

Oh and Alien...um...no, not going to say it...

I remember him on Frasier...and if you want to see REALLY funny...Patrick Stewart played a gay interior decorator (and yes he was VERY effiminate) in the movie Jeffrey!

Jeffrey is a movie about a luckless gay guy who can't seem to find the right guy...and who is extremely SCARED of HIV/AIDS.  When he finally meets Mr. Right (the actor who later played the Jarod on the Pretender series), he is blown away by finding out that his Mr. Right is HIV+.

Patrick Stewart is a close friend, and a very campy interior decorator with small lapdog and wannabe actor boyfriend (whose claim to fame is he's one of the background cats in CATS).  Stewart dominated every scene...and it's been hard to watch him as Capt. Picard ever since. I keep expecting him to look at Ryker and say "Number one, is that beard or did some cat poop on your face?"
