OK, started a new one so y'all can find the relevant pics easier. ;D It's been a couple of months since I did anything on this, and I started out this time re=working the saucer. Here's a couple of pics of that...notice, I already fixed the nacelles, still need to re-work thw pylons and try to refine the 2ndary shape. When I start texturing her, I probably won't post wip pics...if there's something about the textures you don't like, then change 'em after d/ling. ::)
Here's a couple of pics...

your work is improving Sandman .. what ever you do don't give up !! I know ya can do it !
-
I love it... dont think mutch of the colour scheme though :D
Good work Bud... ;)
-
Hmmm, nice.
Placing another idea in my memory bank.
-
Oh I get it: Female personnel in the primary hull (pink); male personnel in the secondary hull (blu). Kirk wouldnt like that arrangement ;D
Looks like its gonna be a nice ship Sman, aesthetically speaking.
-
Sandman keep up the excelent work the model looks briliant.
-
Personally, I'm glad to see him back on the job...
GO FOR IT BUBBA !!!
-
THX!! ;D
-
i have a question. how do you do the inset part of the saucer? i have been trying to figure that out for a while now
-
Splines...on this version, I made a spline shape, then used SHAPEMERGE...then negative extrude. :)
-
ok i think i got ya there ill have to try that when i get home
-
OK, just a quickie...when I did the pylons the 1st time, I did 'em backwards...flipped 'em and repositioned 'em and...
-
:notworthy: Great stuff Bud.... what does the poly count stand at??
-
looks good besides a few smoothing errors on the saucer, but i figure you'll get around to fixing those eventually :). keep up the good work
-
Thanx, and right now she's 6440 polies...not too bad, and I hope to reduce that as I go. ;)
-
Dang that looks great.Good to see ya back at it.This time pace yourself,no more mad headaches.
;D

I'll second that.

Splines...on this version, I made a spline shape, then used SHAPEMERGE...then negative extrude.
i went to try this last night and could not get it to work any chance you could do a little step by step write up for me to make sure i am doing it right?
TIA
-Wulf Out
-
You could also try exruding or beveling the faces? ;)
-
beveling anything locks up max on me and i havent had any luck extruding faces either
-
Better yet, I'll send ya the tut I found on shapemerge. ;D
Thx for the support guys. ;D :rwoot:
-
cool thanks Sandman send it to jspeckma@sarcom.com i apreciate the help
-
Sandman what would be the chance of getting that tutorial sent to fatbloke146@hotmail.com, a few people I know would find it a great help.
-
Just a quick note...I've started the texturing, and been in contact with Buzz...as I stated before, I won't be showing the WIP work on the texturing...too many different views and opinions, threw me for loop last time. :P Slow going at the moment, as once again I'm fighting pneumonia...I love having emphysema, getting sick all the time, Great stuff. ::) :'( Oh well, this is kinda theraputic, as long as I don't get too stressed about it, lol. ;D
Anyway, after I get approval regarding the saucer textures, I'll post pics. ;)
-
Bump for front page and how are you feeling sandman.
-
sandman, are you using a spline tut? I have a very basic one for saucers, but not for anything else.
if any of the tuts are compatable with max3 send them to starforce2@bcfiles.com wtf I might as well give ona shot.
-
I'm feeling good, thx for asking. ;D Friday was my last day off until next Friday, so not much online time, sorry for delay in getting the tut out...sending right after this. :P
SF2...yeah it's a spline tut...well shapemerge, but you use splines with it. ;D Sending a tut your way also. ;)
-
thanks for the tut my friend i know it will be of great use to me to learn more
-
Same hear thankyou very much
-
NP guys...you can also get a good video tut on splines at http://www.simplymax.com...you have to join, and I think the tut is like 3 dollars or something, but it's 45 minutes long and explains a lot. ;D
-
OK, I said no pics of texturing til done, but for some reason when I send these to Buzz and Azel I get a delivery failure message, so...
please keep suggestions realistic. ;) These still need some tweaking, this kis just to get an idea for placement.
-
I am partial to registry on one side mane on the other :)
like : USS Titan(space) NCC-bla bla bla bla....lol
-
Also Id say Bin the stroke on the text... I dont really like the red outline... The textures though look good... they will really come out when you start adding detail bud! Great work... glad your posting WIP!! ;D
-
I agree with both Markyd and Azel ...
BTW.... I dont what happened to the DL to my addy .. my son just tried to send some picts last night too .. same problem.
good work Sandman ..... keep 'er comming !
-
Also Id say Bin the stroke on the text...
Say who? :P
You mean get rid of, or alter?
Thanx for advice...and for you PS users, any walkthrus you can do...I'm trying to get this right. :-\
-
Bin - Get rid - throw away - trash it :D
http://members.fortunecity.com/msfm/trekmarkings/trekmarkings.htm
-
OK, here's a little more. Redid the reg as per Azels suggestion and left off the stroke as per MarkyDs suggestion. ;D
I'm having a slight problem with PS right now...it keeps crashing on me. :banghead: When it does, I lose a lot of work...even saving the file doesn't really help, cause it gets corrupted. :banghead: :banghead: I think it's because I'm doing 1024x1024 textures, and my machine can't handle them...so, I'm gonna convert to 512x512 and see if that helps. :skeptic:
I know, I know, some of you laugh at the "curse" business, but it seems like this is going the way of the Melak (crosses fingers, rubs rabbits foot, strokes four-leaf clover ;D). I'm determined to get this done, so don't worry. ;)
Anyway, here's the pics...
-
Looks good!
Small note:
Smaller windows + More windows = Greater sense of scale ;)
Am liking her a lot, good work! 8)
-
Looks mutch better ^what ryker said also a good point ;)
-
aye...and reduce the scale of the name/registry by about 25%
then you got it :)
-
OK, added more windows, reduced their size, reduced the reg size. Started on the bridge module...disregard the horizontal lines on the bridge modul;e top, they're just for placement right now. :P
-
Believe it or not, I wasn't able to do more work on this as I got a damn migraine again...but, not from this. 3 kids with too many days off from school ;D (Veterans Day holiday, thurs., fri., sat., sun. :P). Anyway, I should be able to do more tomorrow, finally got rid of the damn headache. :woot:
-
Looks great but the front stripe in the trench is off. Glad to hear your headache is better.

-
looks good bud. May i suggest when you work with shapes and stuff like you are, use the pen tool and make vector maskes. the shapes will be alot smoother that way :)
-
Yep mutch better... also one more thing if I may
(http://www.myimgs.com/data/markyd/prob.jpg)
could get rid of these crinkles if you weld the vertices together after you made the cut out of the hull.... ;)
Great work dude keep it up!
-
looks good bud. May i suggest when you work with shapes and stuff like you are, use the pen tool and make vector maskes. the shapes will be alot smoother that way :)
I've tried that, but then it comes out blocky. Have any tuts? :)
-
not really, though if you mess w/ the points with the pen tool you can make the shapes curvy (its on of the tools for the pen, it looks like a this ^ ) it will let you select points and make the line curvie... hope that help some
-
Sorry, been hectic in RL. :P
Thx for the explanation Tus...I'll give that shot.
-
Aye its cool mate...I have been sick for the last4 days...so I can relate...lol
-
Aye its cool mate...I have been sick for the last4 days...so I can relate...lol
Feel better Azel.
-
Just a quickie...been working on finishing the saucer, should have more pics soon, but kindaslow going as RL job is in retail and this season is BUSY!! ;D
-
:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
-
OK, here's a few more pics...saucer's almost done, then on to the hull hopefully...remember, I got this far before and then...blooey! ;D And yes, I know some of the stuff is off center...I'll fix that during the final tweaking...just trying to get stuff in place right now. :P
Anyway, here ya go...
-
Ok!!!
the top looks good...I would make the shuttlebay 50-60% wider
The bottom needs the trench too like the top...but thats it for the meshing aspect
Sweet work thus far mate
-
Thanx!! ;D
That damn trench system is the hardest thing to mesh, besides the secondary hull...grumble, grumble...hoped ya wouldn't notice that, lol.
-
Awsomness ;D
One thing I would change is that the aft impulse engine looks a little lo res in comparrison to the rest of the saucer ;)
Apart from that... damn fine work ;D
-
Hey Sandman ....
dont't look now bud ... but you're growing !!

-
Whats growing? :skeptic:  Thanx Buzz, though I know that what people are really waiting for is to re-texture this baby and do her justice...my textures are ok as a placemap, but someone will re-do her and then she'll really shine. :-\ ;D
-
OK, here's a little look with the bottom trench textured in instead of meshed...what do you think, acceptable?
-
Not bad at all.. Ya might try increasing the depth or intensity just a tad.. but other wise .. looks good
-
OK, a little more...
-
is the gray areas for the escape pods.. ?? ( just asking)
The one thing I see as a suggestion would be to straighten up the windows, make them a tad smaller, add more rows ( especially around the edges ... making some them diffenent shapes: square or retangular ) .. that would make this ship look larger in scale)
Other wise .. thsi looks great bud !
