Title: KCW - What happens now
Post by: FPF-SCM_TraceyG_XC on November 03, 2004, 08:19:11 pm
Hello everyone, I'm right in the middle of exams at the moment which is why I havent been around much lately. My last exam is on the 11th November, which means I'll be able to participate in GW4. I assume that KCW is on hold for the moment, however, after GW4 I think we should be able to get everything back together again for KCW. Not sure what the current status is on things with it, last I heard the draft was still incomplete and there were a few more tweeks needed with the rules, but it was largely almost ready to go.
If anyone else has any updates on it, could they let me know please.

I'm not gonna go into it but you missed a little show of fireworks in respects to KCW.

Not to worry, I'm sure we can still do the server.

I've got umpteen dozen pages of unread posts here, maybe if someone could direct me to any relevant posts that would be helpful.

I believe last word was that Hexx was going to host the thing, and that we were going to do the draft over again because of all the time passed and confusion.   I think there was reference to needing a new house leader as well.

Tracey...

Have a look HERE (http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163348387.0.html) and I believe you will learn about the "fireworks" reference. Good luck with the remainder of your exams and we will see you after the 11th.

Respects...

To be quick and blunt:

Since we have not been able to advance the server past the first draft stage without your presence, or received any input from either member of your house's command staff, everything's in the exact same place it was before you started with exams.

Unfortunately, as this has been the same status for over a month, the stagnation has worn on the community, and, as has been mentioned previously, we've experienced quite a few "firework" displays.

Hooch, burned out by the complaining, has left to EVE.  Bonk tried to take the reigns, got flamed by SSCF and other people, and dropped the server.  Currently, Hexx is planning on being the lead Admin, and he is looking for both a solid leadership staff for the houses & a techie to host the server.

Due to the fact that we are way off schedule, people who planned to play may not be able to commit anymore.  Therefore, we can just about consider the original draft etc. as too dated to be useful.  I have heard plans to start over from square 1 with a new draft, and at one poiint Hexx has cited "no trade cycle"...

J'inn's got GW4 on the pipes, with an announced, confirmed and solid start date of Nov. 14th or so.  We will let that server run it's course, and hopefully Hexx will be ready to run with KCW afterword.

Bonk tried to take the reigns, got flamed by SSCF...

::)

Mike's suggestion to hold off until until Hooch gave his blessing to continue without his presence was everything BUT a flame. Anyone that considers that a flame must have an extremely flimsy constitution. Now if Day had said something like, "Bonk, get the <bleep> away from KCW before I come over there and <bleep> your <bleep>, you <bleepity-bleep-bleep>" then I'd see where yer comin' from...

I'd consider anything a flame that, when I read it, has undercurrents of hostility, creates heated debate, and drives rational people to irrational acts.

The first day I read Day's posts on the matter I could tell he was quite upset, practically "yelling", when he was talking about someone "hijacking" Hooch's work.  I felt a definite current of hostility.

Day had to come on here twice defending his point, and got Kroma thinking that comments Day was making were aimed at him.  Debate.

Bonk's subsequent dropping of the KCW server.  Irrational Act.

I have thought up many a flame that doesn't actually scream "I am a hostile flame post, please respond to me!".  They are the most insidious flames out there, mainly because often the recipient doesn't even see the flame.  Meanwhile, many "constructive" comments, even on my part, launched tirades like the recipient was biatch-slapped right onto some hot coals.

My opinion, and as I said it's my blunt opinion, stands.  And, I try to think I have a relatively high constitution, I've been lurking here since before the game was released, putting up with the best RP my ISC persona generated.  And trust me, it generated a lot of negative will...  (calling people RP barbarians and the traditional Veltrassi Holier-than-thou attitude brings out the best in people... :D)

Actually, I never thought Day's comments were directed at me. I thought they were directed at Bonk. It was just that they were a day late and a dollar short as Bonk already agreed not to move forward until Hooch gave his blessing.

However, I too detected the undercurrent of hostility in the original post, which was why I responded to Day since the hostility was completely unwarranted given that the situation was already resolved.

I would score it a 2-3 on a scale of 10 as a flame though. No deliberate trolling in it, just a bit of misdirected righteous indignation.

The disagreement/miscommunication/attack/non-attack issue is over.  Bonk and Day know this ... I believe we should too.  KCW is back on track.  No one seems unhappy about it.  Looking forward to the game when it occurs.

Sorry Karnak, I think I gave you a + today in my random clicking down the thread ;-)

I stayed out of the original fireworks because I think it was more a misunderstanding than any genuine ill-will. Mike Day is one of the nicest guys I've ever met on D2, and he thought Hooch was getting dissed. If somebody did the same to Jeff or Carlos, I'd probably react the same way. I wish he would have gone easier on Bonk, who was simply trying to keep a server that was dying alive, but it wasn't a flamer.

Now, let's get a real server going, I'm getting bored! ;)

Well, everything was pretty much well all ready to go. We can arrange a time at some date in the future, perhaps during GW4 that those of us in the KCW Dev. forum can get the ball rolling again, identify any matters that still need attention and get a test server up following the end of GW4. No rush, plenty of time, with any luck we'll have the real thing sometime around the start of December, to conclude just before Christmas I would imagine.

How does this sound?

Sounds fine to me, it just sounds like a fun server and I don't think it should be scrapped (and should be done soon.  How long has it been talked about now?). :D
