Okay since I last played I did the following stupid things:
1) Went from cable to Verison DSL (I think I got a router with it. There is a box with lights on it)
2) Slapped in Service Pack 2 for XP
3) Got Norton 2005.
Now I am getting firewall messages. DH thinks it's the router.
I need to know what to do or . . . I WON'T BE ON GW4!! <sniff>

OK I can help, but I am going to need you credit card in advance this time.

WinXP SP2 installs a new Windows firewall which by default blocks everything. Check to see you dont have a popup on your desktop asking to allow this program. Also, when next you draft someone, the same thing will happen (it will block Microsoft DirectPlay until you allow it as well).

The icon is a little red ( if OFF) shield in the bottom RH corner.
If you are comfortable with a DMZ, access your router through its fixed IP, then "Enable DMZ" for the internal IP address of your machine, probably one ending in .100 if yours is the main machine on the LAN ( though mine flips around with several machines at home - IP stealing or some such)
It is fairly simple to look through the router options.
Curious why one would go from cable to DSL though.

A four pound maul ought to do the trick... ;)
Seriously though, check the windows firewall first. Disable it totally. Disable Norton totally (if that is even possible).
Are you using Verison software to connect (ack!) or windows native PPPOE? If using Verison software (a "connection manager") find out if you can connect with window's own PPPOE capabilites, then completely uninstall any third party "connection managers".
Also, do you have an ADSL modem and a router? (two seperate boxes?) If so what make, model and version are both?

Well . . . .
I went from good old Cable to Verison DSL. Why? Lots cheaper.
Well the DSL modem seems to come with a built in router.
So I called Verison Tech support.
First Call.
Computer Voice: I'm sorry but we are to busy to help you. Call back later. <click>
GRRRRRRRRR
Second Call.
Giggle Giggle Hi! My name is bambi and I'm yer techie support. Let's see. Router. Erm. Let me ask my boss. <wait>
My boss sez that we don't support the router we sold to you. SO sorry. But here is the number to Linksys. J'inn: But it sez Westell on it. Bambi: Giggle you silly. Here's the Linksys number. <click>

Format the hard drive and install Win98. End of problem.
