Title: Wolfpack, Tomcatters & Jolly Rogers - IMAGE HEAVY
Post by: Thu11s on November 13, 2004, 04:48:35 am
Saw a thread around a little while back about a TOS/SFB F-14 model and got to thinking:

Federation TMP F-14
(http://www.feralyards.co.uk/wip/fed_f14_01.jpg)

a comparison with the orignal design
(http://www.feralyards.co.uk/wip/fed_f14_comp.jpg)
(Image of TOS F-14 courtesy of original owner, sorry, can't remember who, my bad!)

AND... different squadrons

VF-1 Wolfpack
Call sign - Wichita

VF-31 Tomcatters
Call sign - Tomcat

VF-84 Jolly Rogers
Call sign - Victory
(http://www.feralyards.co.uk/wip/fed_f14_vf84.jpg)

I'll add more squadrons later ;)

Also working on the A10/20 with the Photon launcher, and have a rough idea for the drone laiden F-111

;D STOP teasing us Thulls! That is so not fair of you to post super cool models of yours and no D/L information or ETA. LOL

I wrote it before and I do believe that ADB should hire you to make TMP designs if they ever are able to move Starfleet Battles out of TOS era.

Those fighters are awesome!

BTW: Whats up with the Lyrans you were working on? I haven't seen any Trimarans yet.

Qapla!

are these canon from a sci-fi series or just something you decided to build?

Nah, just something I decided to build. I started with the Klingon Z1 to be honest, mainly because I needed one for the Lyran's I've been working on and it went from there. Never been really keen on the original SFC Fed fighter and that TNG peregrin thingy I think just look ugly. The paint jobs for the F-14's are taken from current day F-14's, this site http://www.f-14association.com/squadrons.htm has details on the squadrons and examples of there paint schemes. The A10 and F-111 will be done in a similar vein as well

Holy Top Gun, Batman!  Outstanding, Thu!  Thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!  Btw, I was the one that put up the thread regarding the F-14.  I've always felt that fighters have been rather neglected as model projects over the years.   So glad to see you taking this on!  I see that you mentioned doing up the A-10/20 and the F-111 as well.  I don't suppose you're incliined to do the whole line up, and include the F-18 (historically the most numerous Fed fighter) and the F-15?

I love the addition of the squadron emblems, that is a really nice touch.  I was wondering if you could also do versions sans any emblems, for those of us with our own personal emblems.  Then again, maybe that's just me, lol.  The reason I ask is that, over the years, I've done up ship and squadron emblems for my Fed fleetmates (Federation Protection Fleet) as well as for other Fed players of the D2 (if interested, you can view my work in this thread (http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163348519.0.html) in the D2 forum.

Again, thank you!  I am sooo looking forward to seeing more!  ;D

These are wonderful, Thu11s.  For a while I wanted to find a TMP fighter that could be plausable yet Trek-ish and worthy of replacing the base fighters, and I have found it.  Heck, even if they won't be available for any SFC game, just looking at the pictures alone is good enough for me!  The Klingon/Lyran fighter looks pretty good in itself as well.  Good work, and thanks very much.

Very very nice redesign of a classic SFB fighter. I'll have to snag this one. I like your Jolly Rogers scheme, though I am partial to Tomcat squadrons that actually did something other than look pretty in movies. If you want to do sister squadrons to match, VF-41 Black Aces, VF-2 Bounty Hunters, and VF-11 Red Rippers were the match-ups respectively. Though I'd love to see a VF-143 Pukin' Dogs/VF-142 Ghostriders set. Nice work.

besides VF-111 is a reserve squadron, and the patches tom cruise wore for his supposed squadron he was in only 2 were for F-14 sqaudrons   the rest were for E2c squadrons.  i know this because i was station at miramar, my hanger was next to VF-111's hanger.

I thought that VF-111, the Sundowners, had been disestablished in '95 along with half the fleet. VF-201, -202, -301, and -302 were the reserve F-14 squadrons. And I know for a fact the schemes frome Top Gun weren't even from Tomcat squadrons. Iceman's jet had VFA-25 Fist of the Fleet tail art, and Maverick's was from the VAW-110 Redhawks, an E-2C squadron.

Yeah, heard about that potential law to ban fox hunting across the UK. It almost sounded like a boxing promotion: House of Commons vs. the House or Lords. Interesting stuff.

Post by: S33K100 on November 20, 2004, 02:50:07 am
Erm, it's not 'potential' ever since 1947 IIRC (mabe wrong on the year) the second Parliament Act was passed which meant the House of Lords could only veto a law for one session of Parliament (1 year) then if it gets through the Commons the next year it only needs the royal assent and they can bypass the Lords completely. It's only meant to be used for real emergencies but these facking socialist gimps of Labour are using it on a whim. Really I couldn't care less about fox hunting - they can still hunt them with horses, only now they actually have to do the killing themselves, with their rifles and that. Makes it more of a manly sport IMO. What I'm opposed to in this is them invoking the Parliament Act for these bloody animal rights hippies. This shows why Labour can't be trusted to run the country without some kind of constitution to keep them in check.

Now that's really interesting. I don't know much about the political system there in England, so maybe I'd better do some reading. Would like to live there for a year or so, and knowing how things work might help.

Hmm, well unlike in the US the government can't tread all over us, there's the odd case of pressure groups like animal rights campaigners getting this or that thing banned, and don't try to own a car - this country persecutes the motorist like Bush persecute free thinkers. But for the most part the government can't interfere too much with the average person, they always hold referendums for everything out of a paralysing fear of losing elections, technically the government can make or unmake any law as they see fit - one of the more absurd examples I remember in my lectures is they could make it illegal to smoke in Paris - completely pointless and unenforceable but they could pass an act like that, the only check on the British govt. is that if they upset public opinion everyone will do a protest vote at the next election and kick them out - like what happened to the Conservatives in the early 90s.

P.S. It's not the English political system, it's the British one, the Westminster Parliament legislates for the whole country, though they've delegated some small authority to the Northern Ireland Parliament, the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh Assembly, but that's only in minor unimportant areas of law and those areas are far from autonomous.

Sorry it taking so long. Took longer than expected to fully sort out my hosting issues. Add to that a car that has needed a complete new exhaust and petrol tank as well as other bits for its MOT on Thursday (all done by me  :-\) AND HL2 and you can see where my time goes  ::)

but, F18 mesh is kinda done and the A10 is looking a bit basic. Still to start texturing the Klink Z-1, but I haven't given up

Off for 2 weeks over Xmas, so fingers crossed :D

Don't worry Thu, R/L always takes precedence over this little hobby we call SFC (as hard as that is, heheh).  Btw, I'm curious what MOT and HL2 are, some sort of tests for emmisions standards?  We have the same thing here in the US, the stringency of which is set by the state you live in, IIRC (I live in California, with some of the toughest standards around).  But I digress...

Great looking stuff!  I love the different schemes you've come up with for the various squadrons, that really makes the whole design.  Btw, I noticed that the third pic down (VF-41) has a 101 on each side of the cockpit, I was wondering if this was meant to go on the fifth one down (VF-101).

Also (and I think I already asked this, sorry), are you going to have "blank" fighters for those of us that would like to add our own squadron numbers and patches?

Oooh, those "reinforcments" look mean!  ;D

Title: Re: Wolfpack, Tomcatters & Jolly Rogers - IMAGE HEAVY
Post by: Thu11s on December 14, 2004, 02:16:59 pm
Erm, the MOT is the yearly vehicle road worthy test all vehicles over 3 years old have to take in the UK. It's illegal to drive car without one, but that doesn;t stop some people. Also invalidates your insurance if its expired.

HL2? Half Life 2, all I can say is Grav gun and circular saw's is hellish fun  ;D

I know the 101 doesn;t appear on the VF101 squadron but thats the number the F14 in the picture I had for the VF41 squadron had on it, more than that, no idea. Also have to remember the texture is mirrored over both halves of the hull (top down) so anything except 1, 0 or 8 would look odd

Yep, blank textures will be included. I'll probably release both blank BMP's as well as blank PSD;s that have the areas to line up the textures with (be much easier else you'll be painting in the dark!)
