Title: The stock RBC mod has its LOD 3 3_2 go black when zooming out.
Post by: Dizzy on November 16, 2004, 01:50:42 pm
Can someone take a look at this?

I was messing with Atra and Klingo fanatics conversion of this and noticed that when zooming out to level 3 (not sure what to call it, LOD?) the wings all go black. Looks like the rest of the model textures are there... I dont think the 3_2 texture is misnaned... Wonder what it is.

At the very least, would someone be able to eliminate all but the 2x first texture sizes? That'd fix it.

check the size of 3_2, it my be a non-square size...or it could have an alpha channel.

I copied the 1_2 and renamed it. Still turns black. Thats the funny thing. It doesnt turn white in the viewer like other non-textured surfaces, it turns black.

Whats an alpha channel?

In the modelling software there are two (or more) channels to map on to a ship. One is for the textures the other is for the light maps. A black area on a ship is a place where no texture has been mapped to it or the channels got reversed (light map on top instead of under the texture)

It's just funny that this is the stock rbc model and it passed although it being black at LOD3 range. Small oversight. I have KF's and Atras retexture for it. It uses the same model. Here is a pic. It really is a pretty ship.
