Wife's one Christmas wish is a CD payer for the truck ('99 Jeep Cherokee with stock AM/FM).
I am an automotive klutz. No way in hell I'm going to pull the dashboard apart. And she doesn't won't a boombox-mobile, clashes with the school-marm image.
So from what little I understand of the options I can have BestBuy rip out the old AM/FM and install a CD/AM/FM or have them install a CD deck somewhere in the back and transmit the signal to the current radio.
Help me make a decision; your advice, pointers, recommendations, and horror stories are appreciated. :popcorn:

I pulled the old tapedeck out of my hyper speed ford escort station wagon and installed a a cd player using the existing speakers...took about 2 hours and a multimeter (just to make sure which were voltage lines vs speaker lines)..it wasn't too bad..seems you have the basic knowledge...
If bestbuy wants to sell you the remote thingy..they are selling you a multi-disk player with an amplifier...get a single sidk player and a visor holder for the cd's..
if you have access to a tone generator, you can map out which wires go to which speakers..unless you're putting in a new system (speakers, amp and everything), then come out here to Omaha, we'll go to the lab and abuse the test equipment ;D

Just because your rado LOOKS flashy doesn't mean it has to be ridiculously loud. Just go for one that matches your dashboard and you should be ok.

Did you get it done?? Or did you go to some sleazy dealer in Paramus who's nephew is the grandson of the Carvel ice cream chain owner? (Buy my ice cream, or we send the boys over (done in a deep raspy voice))...heh heh, I remember those commercials from the '70's..they were great

The best thing to do is go to best buy purchase a am/fm/cd player then pay the extra 20 for the mounting kit and have them install it. It will take less time it will be a nice clean installation and they install for free.
Also a note to who ever suggested the tone generator. Take a C cell battery and contact the leads to each end. The speaker will crackle. Also make note to swap ends of the batt and remember when the tone is deeper what ever wire was on the + side of the batt that will be the + side of the speaker.

Ahh..you see I work in a calibration laboratory..I have access to just about anything I need from DC to 50 GHz to optics..and I have the key on the weekends :D
It's easier then, and I don't mind the time

Just got back from a working vacation to Denver so I haven't had time to tackle this yet but seems I'll go for the dash mounted AM/FM/CD Best-Buy install option. I could probably muddle my way through a self install but with my luck tuning the radio would cause the Jeep's wipers to turn on, resulting in pissed-off wife. ;D

Out to Rocky Mtn Arsenal? You coulda brought the car to Omaha on the way back, installed it, drove past W. Buffet's house with it blaring, then gone to a good steak house...then you take I-80 home ;D

Blah, wouldn't go near Rocky Flats even if I had reason and a clearance. No, I was in Denver to help mom & dad move from one apartment to another, a three story walkup no less. My god, its full of stairs! :o
Took a day off and went skying at Keystone after two days of snow, way cool.

I thought you were out there for work..used to live near Buckley AFB when I was at school at Lowry..long time ago..'78..haven't had much to do with Denver since I retired and interviewed at the AT&T center there..got a better jpb here at offutt..
