Title: Romulna Plasma Primer?
Post by: Hexx on November 23, 2004, 07:13:52 pm
Anyone have links to basic Rom tactics?
As amusing as the ships are , and I know in the right hands they're great, I really can't see how
a ship with the plasma loadout can beat a roughly equal hull class armed with Photons/Drones and (probably) more phasers.
I mean an S torp hurts, but at 3 turns to charge I'm not sure how one kills someone with it.

As a Rom, it really is pretty easy to beat a ship that out-phasers you and has photons / missiles.  You just have to wait until he makes a mistake (preferably several, spaced several turns apart).

Of course, if you make a mistake first, it is all over...

...and if he doesn't make a mistake before your shields are gone and you are taking internals, then the best you can hope for is to make it across the border.

In other words, you just have to be better than the rest. ;)

Hexx, first of all you spelled Romulan = Romulna

NO SOUP FOR U !!!!

Some of us here might take that as a personal insult on the Honor of the Empire, and that is flat out dangerous behavior.

Perhaps you should ask Dizzy, then. He killed a Fed CVA with a PRA.

Call me crazy, but just from what I've read here, not to mention what I already know, You just have to be MORE PATIENT than the rest...

Also known as saber dancing, hence why the klingons enjoy melee combat despite their ship design philosphy.

First, try cloaking to lull the enemy into a false sense of security.  When they close, hit that big Self Destruct button, to teach the enemy the error of his ways.

Remember this:

The Plasma boat typically has more plasma damage per landed volley than most any other "equal" ship in the game.

A Pair of S-torps do 60 damage out to range 10.  This is the same as:
A Fed CA / BCG / BCF's 4 overloaded photons (well, the 4 phots do 64 OL damage if they all hit)
Lots and Lots of Klink Overloaded Dizzys.  I don't think that even the C7 gets enough dizzys to do 60 damage, overloaded or not.  Maybe a DN, or something with 6 Dizzys @ range 0.
5 type-I drones.
2 R-0 ESGs
A lucky hit with 3 OL Fusions at R0

The tricks with Rommies are:
1.  Surviving long enough against the stronger phaser spreads
2.  Avoiding all the faster-charging heavy weapons.  You want them to get only 1 shot at you, and only when you're going to land full-strength plasma hits.
3.  Getting close enough to land the Torps before they move 10 hexes of range.  Sadly, most people travel at speed 20+ and make sure to stay away from us nice people.

You can find some tactical information HERE. (http://rts.150m.com/tactics.htm)

This is a site that represents a now defunct ladder fleet that I once headed up under my true name of Ael Aidoann. While there are now pop-ups, there is a lot of great information to be had.
