-
vERY NICE AZ.... whats the story behind this ship? Ive never seen it before? ???
-
This is the ship that Matt Jefferies designed that was almost the Enterprise for TOS...but was turn down for the standard connie design
Gene and Matt both enjoyed the design and it was pictured in the First Trek film in the rec-room along with the CVN-65 Enterprise, the Shuttle Enterprise, and the TOS connie. She was also shown in the background pic at Starfleet Command in "ST: Enterprise" on an occasion
The ship is technically Canon and is supposed to have been design and was used as an Explorer (rather than the starliner that was proposed by some...
as you can see the ship hardly has enough mass to constitute a liner) during the 100 year Gap between first contact and the NX-01
-
Ahhhh cool... so you made the entire model from a pic of a model from the show?... if so that is VERY impressive dude ;)
I for one need ref pics of death in making a model ;)

-
Uh ...I think thats the DL link guys..lol
Enjoy :)
Thanks Tus for the lightmaps
OOPs!!!
I just noticed that there is a small problem...the texture size is incorrect as is the lightmap
it is 257X512 rather than 256X512...those of you with the ability to change it good...those of you without..I'll see if
I can get the corrected version up ASAP...sorry mates...my bad

Sorry mates...I guess I goofed

I might also add that when the second Star Trek series was in consideration this ship was considered. Prior to the other better known study ships and the 4 foot model of the Ent that was later upgraded for the movie. It was at one point discussed to have the second series revolve around Kirk and Spock meeting at the academy, but that as well went no-where.And neither was made into a series I got this from the site where I found the pic of this beauty. There are several awesome articles there. ;D

This is one of my favorite Pre-TOS Trek Earth ships that isn't in the conventional form of saucer (or sphere or what not), secondary hull and a pair of warp nacelles. I would think in some way this Enterprise could fit into Masao Okazaki's view on the Pre-TOS timeline (http://www.starfleet-museum.org/index.htm), and I enjoy what you've done here as I had all your previous work (despite lack of commenting on my part). I would definately use this in an SFC-esque Pre-TOS mod if I decided to personalize my own. Nevertheless, I would definately use it somehow, even if it's just for taking up hard drive space and making wallpaper out of it, but I'm sure I'd put it to better use. ;)

Now you've done it, now you've really done it! You took a stupid stock design and made it completely believable and completely awesome. Thanks alot, now I am going to have to totally rethink my hatred of this design. It might now actually be a better design then the Akiraprise.
Good job, amazing,
Interstellar Machine

This one...........

Wow...I wish I saw this when I was modelling her...All I had was the TMP Dvd and memory :P

Just to clarify a point that seems confused in the article MP linked to, the "Star Trek Magazine" article on designing the original Enterprise (http://www.starfleetcom.net/lcars/fsd/art/1701.html) makes it clear, per Mr. Jefferies himself, that this ship does originally date from the early days of TOS. Also, in the Magazine article on the Vulcan cruiser from "Enterprise" (http://www.starfleetcom.net/lcars/fsd/art/timur.html), Doug Drexler talks about taking his inspiration from this veyr design--a nice bit of Trek continuity in a show almost entirely lacking in it. ;)
As to what the heck this ship is supposed to be, it seems that nobody knows--
from Rick Sternbach via Ex Astris:
My only exposure to that design was back in 1978 when I was on ST:TMP. The script called for a few ships called Enterprise to be exhibited in the Rec Room. Gene Roddenberry asked me to stop by his office, where he gave me a copy of the painting of the ship, printed as a poster. He asked me to make that design one of the five or so ships in the Rec Room alcove. So who was I to say no? ... As to how that ship fits into Trek history, I really don't have anything intelligent to say. I don't know much about it, never speculated about uh, specs, and have no real opinion about whether it was a civvie vessel or a Federation vessel or just what it was. I also have no additional drawings or even the poster I worked from in 1978. You'll all have to carry on as best you can to shoehorn it into the lore.
The obvious speculation, with the ENT Vulcan cruisers now in the equation, is that this an attempt by human designers to recreate the "ring" warp drive system that the Vulcans use. It would seem to follow that the attempt was not particularly successful, as this is the one time it seems to ever have been tried... ;)
Nice work, Azel--especially from the DVD and memory alone! :)
