Anyone else get this game?
I have finished the solo good campaign and liked it.
Just tried the online part last night and it reminded me of the early days of Mpiggy.
Anyways, if anyone has it and would like to hook up for some online play, drop me a line.

Working my way through it as well, very pretty ... Saw Kenneth Yeast name in credits. Good game.

I just wish it were more like the Total War engine than the Warcraft engine. The lack of the tactical element annoys me. It is an excellent time waster though. ;D

its great fun :) haven't beaten the camp yet, haven't been in the mood to finish it ;)
its probably the most enjoyable game i have played, right up there with sfc and hl :) even ejoyed the one mp game i had though for some reason my opponent didn't last to long.... hmmm

Yeesh... ok... having problems with multiplayer games.... getting wasted way to quickly....
Any advice?
Legolas is a god in this thing... is there a way to play without heroes?
They are a bit unbalancing.

I am haveing a blast.
The game is not quite a stratigic gamers delight with 30+ unit types etc..it is brute force and the simplicity of the rock, paper scissors (sort of) game play, is simple. Lots of action and Little Down time, as opposed to others of the RTS ilk I have had the opportunity to experience
The artwork is top notch and nary a glitch in the retail version which is a plus in my book.
Have not ventured mp yet....but do not know if would hold the same interest as the solo mode due to structure and the gain your units veterancy feature which I really like. In fact I have delayed completeing mission just to spend an extra hour leveling my units for later. Alas, this bit of coolness I dont belive translates into PvP, though units would gain veterancy during the course of play, though leveling to level 10 in a single match might be difficult.

Very well put RazalYllib.
Here In a bit, I'm going to try the Helms Deep Mission again. I seem to be able to hold them off for hours, But Can't manage to get enough People for a party to take out there Encampments fast enough.

Use Gandalf and the reinforcements to smash the camps.

Use Gandalf and the reinforcements to smash the camps.
awesome, That worked Perfectly. The funny thing was, I didn't get the horsmen, But I did Get Gandalf and what's his name. I used Gandalf and arragorn to smash the second base.
The First, I had a lot of rohnin That I had hidden, so when they started building It, I just came in and Smashed.
The Next Mission, the one with Tree Beard, That was the most fun I've had with an RTS in a long time.

What I do (assuming you may not have read the fine print in the manual and discovered this yet) is combine units when I can. To do that, for instance using a Gondor Soldier and a Gondor Archer, click one and move your mouse over the other. You'll see the curser change to something like >>><<<. Click again and the two combine. The archers will snipe while the footmen now protect them.
This works with Rohan's Yeomen archers and Peasants too, but make sure you click the "arm all peasants" button. You can combine foot with Rohhirim horse, but that doesn't make sense to me. My favorite combination is Gondor Tower Guards, and Rangers.
Next, to every unit you have (for a mass attack for instance, press Q. To slect all horses, shift-click or doubleclick the type of unit you want to select. Then assign them a combat group by pressing CTRL-1through9.
I like to build up a base and let them come to me. My archers and foot will slaughter them, while I send my Horsemen our and around to assault their base.
To destroy a base, I generally first destroy the buildings that produce troops, then the citadel. Without the citadel the enemy will not build new or repair old buildings. Sometimes he'll rebuild the citadel, but you can bankrupt him quickly doing this.
I think back away and heal up, then raid his base again.

Very good advise. I haven't tried the Combine yet, But I will here in the Future.

Something else I like to do is put a fountain and a statue just inside the gate I am defending. It raises morale and heals the troops standing close.
-
Aye, that is a good thing to do.
I have just been told that there will be a patch that will reduce the online strength of some of the heroes.
Until then, I am done with the online part.
Seems all you need to do is make your heroes. Made the mistake of playing a game that starts with tons of money... the guy built the Witch King and just wiped me out in no time flat.
And i thought Legolas was bad, he can take out unit of max'd out armored troops in no time flat.
On line isn't about tactics or strategy, just who can build the good heroes fastest.

Oh yeah, has anyone else noticed a massive memory leak in this game?
I pretty much have to reboot when ever I exit the game b/c things are running soooooo slow...
And I am running 2 gigs of high spd DDR RAM.
-
I haven't noticed any Memory leak myself, and I'm using just 1.5 gig of DDRRam on my gaming system.
That's Interesting though.

Try running MemTurbo..when I finish a heavy game or application, I tell it to scrub the ram..works pretty good..
