Although Bonk seems to think it's the shiplist in 71-72 that's causing some issues.
I'm not sure we ran the test in those years. mostly 73 from what I remember.
I don't think that is the problem. I think all the last minute additions and changes that created the problem.
I did not make a bunch of last minute changes. ;)
Here's what Bonk and I did did after DH quit.
1.) Added the I-HF fighter.
2.) Changed the H-ST-H ftr. (Was an incorrect change and is now fixed).
3.) Added 4 EEK missions.
4.) Donors were changed to Pirate cartels.
5.) Donors were split by Bonk. (Tigerheart and Syndicate were at the top and bottom of the list. This has been fixed).
6.) Cartel engine doubling was turned off.
I think that's it. Adding EEK missions will not cause server crashes. The Ftrs were checked and they worked.
The Donors were changed to pirates because DH had to remove them from the server side shiplist to keep them from showing up in donored races. This causes a few problems serverside with the server.
Cartels are now used and engine doubling has been turned off to make it finally work right. This will solve those instability problems cuz server and player shiplist now will match and serverside ships wont have to be pulled.
In addition, .gf settings that have been carried over from AOTK and SS2-GW series servers have had persistent problems. Those have been fixed.
Things that were changed from testing to going LIVE:
1.) Test server was started in 2273 and ran fine.
2.) To start the server in 2271, we started the LIVE server in 2263 (had to) and changed the milliseconds per turn so that 10 years (14 days worth) of turns ran in 10 mins. HUGE mistake.
AI generation was turned ON and should not have been. The server didnt have time to keep track of all that AI being built, attacking hexes and being killed in such short time and freaked out creating DB errors.
Things we are going to change:
AI generation will now be turned OFF. Split shiplist donors are fixed.
The server will not start in 2263 and be 'sped up' to 2271. Instead we will simply start the server at the mid era default year of 2273. This should solve ALL the problems. We will see, as it is being tested right now. If it works, we relaunch today.
Things you will notice that have changed:
Because the server will be advanced to 2273 we will need to do new builds later tonight. The server will still end Sunday on the 13th around Year 2285 instead of 83.
In addition, because we fixed the brk mod on the T-MFA, the Hydran stinger was fixed, and the some crappy ships are being pulled, we need a new D/L installer.
EEK missions have been pulled because of difficulty levels and some other small trivial issues.
The map will be changed to show EXACTLY the same hex ownership as of 1 hour ago including the removal of every base destroyed:
Feds: 26,12 32,9
I.S.C.: 2,11 4,10 6,9 8,8 10,9 12,10 16,12 18,13
Rom: 34,15 36,15
You will start off in a heavy or equivalent, and with 15k pp.
There is no other alternative than a reset, and if you recall I posted that we reserved the right to a 24hr reset. Well, turns out this is what it takes to fix it.
My apologies to everyone, Bonk and I are spending huge amounts of time and effort to fix this for u and it's hard to pick up the ball and run with it when you change admins right b4 a server goes live.
Please bear with us.

Dizzy, no problem. I appreciate all the effort that goes into something like this, and it is done because you guys care about the game. We thank you and understad that it is a major task. +1
-
Is this going to be a round 2 build, and we keep our round 1 ships, or is this going to be a new build replacing the original Round 1 builds?
-
Cool Dizzy
(For me anyway) it's no so much the necessity of a reset as it is not knowing what's been done/ is being planned.
(I'm just nosy I guess)
Thanks for the update
And to confirm, we'll be doing the 73 builds for teh server reset, in addition to the 71 builds we've already done ?
Sides' maybe this time the alliance can actually give us a list of who's flying what rather than claiming "operational security " :P

Uh dizzy you missed 2 destroyed ISC bases at 35,12 and 37,12.

We did this on the GW servers and had no problems. GW also leave AI generation turned off, not sure wheteher this is s contributing factor or not.
Last night's crashes when the population is high is the normal breaking point for the XC server.
-
NP, Dizzy just as long its fixed... ;D
+1 to you Dizzy also.
-
looks as if we will be able to go back to 2271! I might have come up with a solution that fixes the whole thing.
Let u know soon. I'll see if I can axe those 2 bases I missed. No promises.
-
Good stuff Dizzy, Bonk.
Thanks for all the hard work just so us addicts can get our fix!
Heh, has there ever been a server without teething troubles? We should all be used to it by now.
-
Good Work all.
Although again if we know 2273 will fix the problemwouldn't it be easier to just start it there?
-
*sigh* all that work...
I do appreciate you guys continuing efforts to solve the problems of the server.
The constant crashes were pretty much intolerable...
Any idea of a time?...

What work? I changed all the map hex changes to the new map. All the bases that are destroyed have been removed from the map including the 2x Firehawk said I miised.
You will all get 15k to rebuy your ships, and I think we will be able to restart in 2271.180 or thereabouts...
I came up with an interesting fix for AI creation problems. I think we are good now. Bonk is testing it to see if it creates DB errors and so far its looking real good. We were thinking of a relaunch at 2:00pm today Central time, but may do it sooner :)

Rom: 34,15 36,15
If that many (and more) bases were destroyed in the first day I think you missed the mark on beefing up the mission.
-
Any new Download required such as a new installer?

Easy to compensate. The bases will simply have to cost less... Thats the only change im willing to make. They were fairly hard in testing, heh.
-
The H-CAV probably should have been made a specialty ship. ;)
Thanks for fixing the St-H Diz, and everything else.

Why would SR bother with a vet when all she needs is some rope, a rubber band, and a pair of garden shears? ;D

Please forgive my intrusion here...I have a simple comment...
I was sitting on several ISC Bases that were destroyed and was not drafted...
Now maybe I couldn't have stopped the destruction, but not given the opportunity stunk.
I think I am experienced enough to have sliced at least one of these base killers enough to abort the attempt...or least float around and watch tactics for the next one...lol
I was drafted once in the several hours I was online by a Lyran "MathCubeGuy"..who ran off the map...he was in a CWLP vs my CAY. All the other times..the server didn't draft me friend or foe.
-
A valid point IMO, Grey, and something that may need to be looked at. Never be afraid to speak up about a potential issue. :) I know the feeling of losing bases all too quickly without having the opportunity for a fight. AOTK really had great drafting on those base missions, and one person could easily slow the enemy down by standing on their own base for defence postures in their attacker missions.
-
The base missions SHOULD draft human players.
-
The base missions SHOULD draft human players.
Agreed, they have in the past...
-
The base missions SHOULD draft human players.
Seriously!!
-
Man I had a blast with those ph 4s! I remember the shock as they thought I had left the AO and they were chatting "Man, that SB is not acting right." ;D I WONDER WHY? Muaaahhhhhaaaaaa!
-
+1 Karma fior ya Diz, from the Elf.
-
Thx Melf. +1 karna back to ya. And I see that you have -40 karma... no doubt from all 40 of your dyna victims... I'm way ahead of you bro. You want sum lessons? Maybe in between me killing some frogs and feddies I can squeeze you in for some madskillz Diz style.
And Grey, when you move in to take a base assault the server will not give you a base assault mission if there is an enemy draftable player in that hex. It will generate a patrol.

Perhaps on a seriously skewered .gf files server.
On every other server where there wasn't some type of pish posh shiplists and way tricked out .gfs ?
No issues. ODIN is running this server, not THOR.
Interestingly enough each and every SFC3 campaign run on XC servers have had no issues with 40 + players on board.
I'm getting tired of having people talk crap about resources that I put out there for free, with nothing asked for but to play them.
-
Personally . . . I think this is the problem . . . .
For the past year or so we haven't had a huge turnout server. The GW servers usually have 30 people max. Therefore, many of us have gotten used to a certain level of stablity that is much harder to attain when the population gets up in the 40+ area.
Super kudos to Dizzy for putting out a server that has drawn so many people!!
The CW servers crashed like this all the time. It was just a part of life, like death and alimony.
Personally, I'm having a blast.
-
We appreciate everything you do for us Frey, make no mistake. We are working on a solution cooperatively the best we can. I am adding missing classes and fixing YFAs on the shiplist now so it will run error free on a D2 server (I hope). I want to keep it on odin if I can because the webmap is setup at D.net. (don't see why not if I can get rid of the errors)
-
Frey, we are on to something big! Take a seat and let us show u in a few, u will be shocked.
-
Hey, Frey, Bonk and Dizzy, anyone that whines and moans about this that and the other that isn't being constructive, hand them some chap stick, bend over and tell them to pucker up.
I appreciate what you guys are doing. Kudo's to all three. (Dizzy, you're giong to have to wait to get your kudo. I only had two.)
