Is the Webmap showing bases a good idea? Since they are desructable, should we make people do there own recon?
i think behind the lines scouting missions will add strategic depth, am I alone?
I know we've started already, but all the bases destroyed have been original.
Just trolling . . .
-
Their display can be disabled. I asked Dizzy if he wanted them shown or not. Since they are shown on the initial campaign map anyway we set them for display on the webmap. Can be disabled easily if desired (so new bases can be placed in "secret" in isolation on the server in the wee hours when absolutely noone is looking... ;))
-
I prefer the behind the lines recon myself
-
Please disable bases, Bonk. ;)
Here is the new addy: http://69.115.120.11:30033/

rgr, done!
-
That was easy ;D
-
Well that changes things.
-
This should have happened before the server start, not mid campaign without a majority vote by SACs and RMs.
-
Speak up sooner next time! Make some noise! (its really easy to change). I'm saddened that this has detracted from your online SFC gaming experience, it is intended to enhance it... :'( Shall we remove the map altogether?
There was a marked rarity of testing and comments early on, the usual pattern. Downloaditis? <sigh>

Bonk this is in no way against you. I'm grateful that you picked up the admin ball and that we have a server to play on.
It just seems Dizzy is making snap decisions without consulting race leaders.
I think Diehard was just bored at work and had nothing else to think about. This is all his fault, bastard. LOL
-
No prob, honest feedback is good.
-
It was always my intention to turn it off when the server started. I just never did. In fact, I think the webmap even made it up too late. We were all doing last minute things and things slip by, u know? But with destructible bases, this is usually the way to go.
If you dont like it, Bach, then I'm sorry. I made the 'snap' decision a long time ago after careful consideration. Please PM me with your issues if it's a hot topic for ya. I'll try and work them out to make you happy.
Bottom line is this server is for fun 1st and foremost. If you arnt having fun, then something needs to change. If you want to see the bases on the map, then get a majority vote by RM and we will happily turn it back on. I am in no way the dictator of fun here, despite it being my server. Hell, I went thru all this crap so you could have fun... I havent even had a chance to play on the server much...
Until then, it's off. It was never supposed to be on, so you guys got some seriously revealing FREE intelligence for the 1st few days of the server. Let me know what the other RM's say.

Since when have I ever started trouble on the forums when I was bored at work? ;D

Diz,
At this point I really don't care, I was just stating my opinion. I don't have an issue with not being able to see the starbases on the webmap, the issue I have is the mid-server change. Those are the breaks though I suppose.
-
Bach, please dont think Im getting confrontational, but there are no breaks here. What you may think is a break doesnt only apply to you, but everyone equally. When there is a mid server change, it is usually for resolution over a dispute. This was no dispute and it favors no one.
The appellative, 'Mid server change', has a bad stigma attached to it. About everytime one is used, compensates one thing to cause imbalance in another. That's no good.
But roleplay is. SG4 has always had roleplay and this server will be no different. So when you get something unexpected dumped in your lap, which may very well happen, chalk it up to roleplay, storyline, fortune/misfortune, whatever. But I dont call it a break, I call it roleplay. Try and not be so rigid that you cant enjoy a little of it?

I'm looking forwward to behind-the-lines- recon.
-
I blame Die Hard for this entire mess. I hereby move that he be banned from the server whenever I am playing. Second?
-
Realistically speaking it would be virtually impossible to keep a base secret for long. Pirates and free traders would likely either site it or notice heavier military traffic in the area, and the information would get out.

Got 3 words for you . . .
Weapons Free Zone ;D

I'm still having fun Diz. If it was your original intent to have the feature of the webmap that shows starbases disabled you simply should have explained that at the same time you asked Bonk to shut it off. It would have eased the situation a bit if it didn't appear that you were making a snap decision.
-
I dont make snap decisions. But because you bring it up in this fashion, I need to address it in a new rule...
Attention ALL! New Rule change: Rule #73.415, Paragraph B, section 12, sub paragraph Two, "Whenever Hexx is adjacent to a base, but not a planet while in an original neutral zone hex, only between the DV of 2 and 3 only on Tuesdays before a build cycle only, he will be excused from the Rule # 65.721 Paragraph H, section 4, sub paragraph Three AS LONG as he is in compliance with Rule # 84.212, Paragrapph A, section 4, sub paragraph Seven.
Thanks all.
