Okay, now that I have downloaded all the patches and upgrades and played this highly addicting game until the AI is no longer any match for me, how do I access the servers and games that will allow me to match wits with other human gamers. While I know my way around a computer just enough to be dangerous, I am a complete newbie at online gaming (IOW I have never done it before.)
Pretty sure I have everything I need hardware and software wise (Broadband connection, SFC OP software with next to most recent enhancement pack), just want to know what to do and where to go to play online.
Thanks in advance, and I look forward to playing online (IF I can figure out how to do it.)

If you have the Enhancement Pack V3.0 you are ready to go if not get in the Dynaverse2 forum stickied at the top by Pestalence.If you don't have it I would advise you to get it but if you want to get on right now get this for now and later get the Enhancement Pack.

Then all you need is a GSA account and register either for a non member or member which ever is your choice after that you will want to register for the Dyna2 campaign that is on right now in the Dynaverse2 forum for SGO4 and download the installer.Then you are ready to go just check in the D2 forum for all the details about the camp that is on right now.You would want to get voice comms as well to talk to anyone online to get Teamspeak ask DieHard and if you want Ventrilico ask KBF Crim.This depends on what race you want to fly for the Alliance consists of the Federation,Hydran,Gorn and Mirak The Coalition consist of the Klingons,Lyrans,Romulans and mostly the ISC but not on this camp.I hope this help you out but do check in the D2 forum and ask players in there if I left anything out.Hope this help and go have fun.

Oh. GSA = GameSpy Arcade? I checked that out at first and it lists the game as supported but doesn't list any players. What is the interface there with the Dynaverse. I have been perusing the dynaverse 2 forum for details but I am still not sure I get (technically) what is going on with the servers, the game, etc.

No Problem at all. What has happened, Interplay, and Eventually Taldren closed down. What you see in the D2 and elswhere is alot of us Old timers Esp. Frey (Thiank you Frey) , have carried on with support.
The current server running is Slave girls 04. There are Instructions in how to Download that game, and If you need Help with some of the Speak IE. EEM , PPD, Etc, Just let us know.
Gamespy is what People generaly use in order to Practice in between servers. In other words, There are quite a few Downloads to get the Game patched, But the people here are Trying there hardest to Make Each server Simpler to use.
Like I said, If you have any questions, Feel Free to post in the D2 or here. There will be people here that will be more then happy to answer your Questions.

To play on the current Dynaverse server "SGO4" (short version):
1) Clean install from CD
2) Patch to 2552 - 2500-2552 Patch (http://www.dynaverse.net/go.php?id=23&source=downloads)
3) Install OP+4.0 (all options): ftp://klingon.stasis.ca/pub/sfcop/opplus_40_models.exe
4) Install the SGO4 Mod (http://members.lycos.co.uk/astinky/SGO4/) (first link on that page is the current full installer)
5) Totally disable all software firewalls and anti-virus software (while playing)
6) Login
(you may find EzINI (http://www.khoromag.org/taldren/setup-ezini.exe) handy too - to set game resolution etc...)

It contains all the latest updates and adons fer OP that exist under the sun to date. Here's (http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163351822.0.html) the thread that discusses it.

Launch the game, pick multiplayer, and choose to log into the dynaverse. Type in your desired e-mail address, user name, and password. Then click the button in the lower righ-hand corner that creates your account with GameSpy. You'll then be able to log into the dynaverse and visit the servers that happen to be online at the time. If you use the "Slave Girls" installer, you'll be able to successfully log into only that specific server. Same goes fer any other server that requires an installer.
