Title: Enterprise gets Canned
Post by: Merlinfmct87 on February 02, 2005, 05:18:37 pm
Star Trek: Enterprise Cancelled! (http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/news/article/9469.html)

First time in 17 years there won't be a Star Trek show of some kind running, unless something new pops on the scene between now and May.

Well, that bites.  I hope someone pickes it up and continues the epic.  I always wanted to see how the War with the Klingons started.

I wonder if the SciFi Channel would pick it up, like what happen with Andramida.

This would never had happened if they hadn't INSISTED on using Enterprise to anchor UPN.

Had it been on a "normal" channel, it would never have had the ratings disaster that it has now.  Of course, Berman and Braga, didnt help matters any when they demanded that Temporal Cold war bull.

Enterprise had the unique ability to reshape how we look at Trek. I only have to mention the Borg episode to illustrate my point. That cast Q's action in a whole new light, and gave him far more depth and character than he had before.

Granted, I hated the Xindi arc as much as anybody, but it has great elements.

The Temporal Cold War and not following what was mentioned in the prior series as what happened is what killed the show.

I had problems with the first episode when they metioned a race, Zend, that never metioned before.
The lost me 2-3 years ago with the Temporal Cold  War.

I do have to say this year is better.

Of course it's better. B&B took their grimey mitts off it and gave it to someone who is not only a good producer, but a self-proclaimed Trekkie to boot. Of course he did better with it than B&B. He cares. They only cared about making a buck.

I tell you, I just can't say enough good about Manny Coto. I hope If there is a new series, they give her the whole kit and Kaboodle, and Leave B & B out in the cold.

The problem with that survey is that it doesn't have "the show really stunk up the boob tube for a long time, but now that Paramount is nudging two particular bums closer to the door it's a whole lot better, I'd like to give it a second chance and pretend the first three years didn't happen" option. ;)

I caught the end of an episode today and it seemed like it was fairly interesting.  I love the Andorians, absolutely love them, and Schran (or however it's spelled) is the best.   It would be nice if they could find a way to make sense of it all (and find a way to get rid of the darn ridges on the Romulan's forheads ;)) but I'd rather see it end now than end up back in the hands of B&B or someone else who doesn't care, at least Coto is trying to do a decent job here.  He should definitely be rewarded for his effort.

Actually StormBringer and I went this last summer, Before I took the wife to Hawaii. If you get out there, make sure to stop by the Sahara and Give your wishes to ToastyO.

It was a very nice thing the ST Experience. My wif stayed at the Excalibur to Gamble, while jerry and I went to It.

Man the Mixed Drinks there in the Bar where incrediblle. I think RatBoy went awhile back also, But It was before the Borg show was done.

actually we stayed at the Excalaber, When we go back We will stay at the saharah since that's where Jerry (toastyO  ) Works. Too many Jerrys that I know.  ;D Yeah we saw both shows the Klingon one IMHO was the best, but the Borg was also good.

When you get down here to Oklahoma We'll make arrangements to drive out for the weekend. Heck Soreyes has been out there quite a few times also. Who knows, Some of us may have even been talking with Admiral Frey over having a Taldrenite Convention some time in the next year or so.

Actually, I hated that sanctimonious twit Weyoun. But I suppose that was the point. He was there for you to hate. Even so, he was a weak character. Shran is much better, and Jeffrey Combs does very well acting the badass.

As a long time trek fan - I could not bring myself to sit through even one whole episode - it just wasn't there.

Bonk, everyone, do you guys remember TNG?  The first three to three and half seasons SUCKED!  I literally couldn't watch the eps.  But Paramount stuck with them.  Then in season four or so, it really turned on the power!  The Klingon arc, the Borg arc, even the time travel stuff with the Romulans were excellent, but it wasn't really until the fourth season or so.

I think they should have given Enterprise another season or two.  It really is on the upswing beginning with late last season.

Yeah, TNG did suck in the beginning.  I can't even tell you how disappointed my very Trek oriented family was.  We mostly stopped watching after the first couple of seasons, or at least stopped making sure we were home on time for it.  I know I saw some episodes that were ok though, but in general I preferred TOS (and I hated the the Galaxy class/lounge in space, thank goodness they came up with the Sovereign class).  I think the Enterprise crew were the best since TOS, it's too bad they were handed such a bum deck in the beginning, it would have been nice to see them all develop further.

You have a point... some things grow on you after a time... Enterprise just has the wrong feel for me though, TNG even seemed better at the start to me.. but maybe I was just younger and less picky...

Yeah, it must have been because those early TNG episodes are really, really bad. lol.  That's not to say that some of the TOS ones weren't, but it was a fairly steady stream of bad for TNG.  I think Enterprise looked a lot better than TNG did when it started.  The problem, imo, was just the darn writers screwing everything to hell and back.

IMHO:

After soo many successful series, they need to take a break, start fresh and approach the next series from a new different perspective.

Enterprise clearly demonstrated that they had run out of ideas, and were drawing off of old material constantly. [No matter how well they attemped to dress it up and or disguise it, it was old concepts, old episodes, redone. For a true trekkie, it was all too evident from day one.

The original Star trek's demise was that they wanted to take it to the next level, because the technology and special FX had out grown the old format and was ready for a change. [Well written]

TNG's demise was that they wanted to and was axious to move that format to the big screen. [excellent writers]

Voyager's downfall was that they traveled back in time every other third episode. [No creative writers]

DS9 was taken as far as they could take it. After the dominion war concluded, they had no where to go with it. [Good writers for this as well]

Enterprise [They totally loss the flow ..... BIG TIME] :( [Not well written at all ... No forsight]

Hopefully the best is yet to come.

IMHO ..   this season was simply too little too late ..

Had the rest of it been as well done as this season ... and they stayed the HXXX away for that "Temporal War" crap ..  it would have exceeded the writting of TOS  ( please dont throw flames ..  hehehe  I was there and saw TOS when it was released the first time )

***  sigh ****  but that did not happen, unfortunately.  I agree that the B&B knot heads affectively killed it.

at any rate ....  I'm hoping for a brighter future for Trek.
