Title: Cardassian Tonga from Dominion Wars game
Post by: Terradyhne on February 14, 2005, 02:40:45 am
build this mesh last night, the original design was great so i thought i would make one for the games i make ship models for  :D
the model at the pic is flat shaded to show the single detail because i made some parts vertex by vertex, poly by poly and the detail was not so good to see in smooth shading

This is looking really good (no shocks there, eh?)
I've never thought to try a mildly assymmetrical Cardassian, but I think it really works...

Here ya go Terradhyne sir, feel free to use it if you like. Tyrel is a bud of mine, and he's cool with using his stuff for ships. Just add this to the read me if you choose to use it.

Tonga Blockade Cruiser

Owner : Cardassian Union
Class : Capital Ship
Availability : Common Variant
In Service : 2371
Out of Service : n/a
Source : Dominion Wars
Author : Tyrel Lohr
December 13, 2002

Description:
With the successful Klingon blockade of Cardassia Prime, a stranglehold was put on the Cardassian war industry. All of their convoys and most of their blockade runners were being intercepted by the Klingons. In a desperate effort to break the blockade Cardassian engineers went back to a 50-year-old design that could utilize locally available raw materials. In addition it could be produced quickly and cheaply. The design yielded a slow, awkward and heavily shielded cruiser. The Tonga's weapon systems were then updated with current technology applicable to its mission of breaking through the blockade while taking down as many enemy ships as possible. This ship was found to be ideal for pinning an opponent in place while the Galors and Hidekis went for the kill.

you know, there are alot of good simple non-canon designs for klingons and cardassians in armada 2, if you guys could redo any of them like the 2 in this thread it'd also be good.

First get all the Armada 2 stuff ported and I'm sure we'll see people take cracks at redoing 'em

I know some have been but I don't recall there ever being an Armada II to SFC model pack. Or Armada one for that matter. I could be wrong though.

Darkdrone has done ST: Armada and ST: Armada 2 conversion mods which I believe are 90-99% of all the available ships from those games:

Armada 2 to SFC mod:

http://starfleetcommand3.filefront.com/file/PROJECT_ARMADA_2StarTrekArmada2_To_StarFleet_Command;26753

Individual race packs are available at that location as well.

I can't find the link to Armada to SFC but I know that Battleclinic and SFC3 files have a bunch of bases and ships from that game there. IMHO, the Armada 2 versions of the same ships/bases are much better.

Once again, thank you Terradyhne for sharing these WIPs with us.

But even an average level modeler could beat the A2 activision ones. Terredyhne certainly can, though I doubt he'd want to do them all, but if he's been bitten by the cardassian bug wouldn't hurt to show him a few ;)
