I am just learning and am having a hard time doing anything that makes sense let alone curves.
-
if you right-klick into any viewport than you have the option "Choose Background Image" that could be used to load schematics of ships you want to build into the background and you could always have a look on the original design, that is helpfull to make some parts that are hard to imagine
hope that this helps

I have a large detailed physical model of the ship. my problem is mostly unfamiliarity with the controls of the program.
-
im with you there stormbringer. Learning it myself.
-
It would have helped if the help files would have saved the graphics. i have help text with a bunch of place holders where the pictures should be.
-
I've been messing around with Milkshape as well. My help file has all the pictures but I don't understand how to do curves yet. grr.
-
The smoothing functions will make curves but it is an automatic function with no user input or control.I want to take a straight edge and curve it manually or drat the curve segment by segment. I also cannot divde or grab onto line segments.

I am far from an expert in modeling in MS. A couple of things that may help.....
Switch your select mode to "vertex" to select points on a line.then you can move individual points. In that mode you can also select two points to divide a face in the pulldown
menu" face" to create additional points. Under "tools" check out "extended primitives" they are sometimes a helpful starting point for arcs ,etc.. Also try out "lathe" on some of
the basic shapes to create arcs you can manipulate.
