I have her mapped but rhats as far as I can go   (crappy at skinning :-[)  so if any one out there wants to have a go at it   let me know

Not bad.. placement is ok... textures look a little.. bland though.... keep it up dude... im sure it will happen!!!  ;)

Some paneling/raised areas to help define the "sections" of the hull will help a lot. Maybe add some intakes/glows, or something to the pod area between the wings and the hull, as well. Great looking fighter, man. It'll make a nice assault (heavy weapons) variant.
