Title: D&D
Post by: KBF-Angel Slayer on May 22, 2005, 10:32:41 am
Just wondering if anyone on here had ever played D&D, and to see  if there was any interest in an online run.  I've DM'ed for over 25 years, so I am adequate.

Total newbie here- only a year or so experience. We ran a few scratch campaigns in our spare time in Iraq.

I have Players Guides ver. 3.0 & 3.5.

If you can't locate enough REAL players, and can stand a greenhorn, I might be in for it, AS.

Played it and am playing Neverwinternights curently.

But my work times mean I probably wont be able to take part. As a Floater, I tend to fill in for other people who are off. So I never know what my off days will be.

Carney, and Khalee, it will be slow going, with one reaction per player most days, and PM's for private information, so both of you are more than welcome to join in.  I'll see if Sethan or Stephen, or whoever the powers that be, mind me running an online campaign and will give me a thread for it.

Perhaps it would be good to repurpose the  Taldrenite Haven NationStates (http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/board,21.0.html) forum for that as it is otherwise essentially dead.  Assuming that the Admins agree of course.

That's fine with me, I've already sent a PM to see if I am allowed to do this, and once I get the okay, I'll post the entry that starts it all.

I've played, but prefer older versions to the 3e stuff overall.

I can't match that.  The AD&D hardcovers came out a couple of months after I started playing.

I am going to date myself...the guiy that introduced me to the game was the neighboring kid for Gary Gygax.  The first books I saw?  They were in a notebook!!  Used the Arduin Trilogy, and some other materials that came out later, as well, but I am partial to 2nd edition, and have been doing Dragonlance for over 15 years.

Carney, since you were the first one to respond, you can pick a year to start it.  That's right. Lets see if you can make it interesting.

Ok, oldtimer... ::)

Since you make it hard on the noob by picking a ruleset printed while I was still in gradeschool... :P

something kinda MODERN, like this year... like 2005-2006. :P

*mutters* pick some kind of arcane ruleset just to pick on the new guy... ;) ;D

Come on, Carney.  Everybody likes to see the kids wet themselves after they've been potty trained.   Want a hint of what the run is going to be about?  Just say the magic word...

I wouldn't mind taking a look at an PBEM campaign... though I'd rather you ran RIFTS. ;D

been doing this for awhile now, via mucks, and IRC actually. found pbems and message boards too slow for my tastes. most mucks I know have roller functions, and for irc its not too hard to find scripts to handle die rolling, assuming the one die at a time pull down is too slow for comfort.

played my first game at 10 years old.... ~sigh~ that was 22 years ago.

<cries>

on the other hand i still have that first printing of deities and demigods with the cthulu and elric mythos in it. also have the oriental adventures book!

The die roller is one that a friend of mine wrote the program for, and when I am not using that, I actually roll the dice while I sit.  Thus, the game does go at a decent pace.  I am a strict adherent of 2nd edition, as it is the system I am most familiar and comfortable with.

Damn does this mean I have to go out to all the bargian bins and find the books I need?!  My ex-husband has ALL the books all the way back to the little cream colored softies.  And yeah I was really tempted to take his Deities and Demigods with Cthulu in it.   :-\

Anywhy kinda looks like a Ravenloft game is what you want to run?

I loved Ravenloft.  Wonderful, fluffy little area of the world, with lots of nice places to visit.   And you don't need to buy the books, guys.  You can actually find the second edition online and download it!   I have permission to do this run, so I am going to do all the set up tomorrow, since I am off.  Anyone interested, aside from Carney, as he has already claimed a spot, please PM me so that we can have a good idea of who all wants to get into this.

PM me, and please also post on this thread.  I will have everything ready tomorrow to start, and will give everyone a day to read over what I post, and an opportunity to get familiar with their stats.  Anyone who needs help, let me know, I'll do so.  My MSN Messenger is benLuby@yahoo.com for those wanting to join.

Okay.  I'll start it tomorrow, and I'll post a link here to the run.  So far, only Carney, Darth Lyr and Lord_Sloth have said they are going to be involved.  I have five more slots, to start.  Let me know...

Well, if anyone is interested, I still have room for some players.  Just let me know what it is you are interested in.  I will send whoever is interested PM's, and the basic start of the story is already done.
