Title: The FoaS is back in the fold - with a new WIP.
Post by: FoaS_XC on May 23, 2005, 06:23:40 am
Hey guys. After a great amount of time, i am now capable of importing MOD format models.

In regard to my excelsior fleet there has always been a few things about it that bothered me. Mainly, lack of a shuttlebay - and so riding on the success of Lord Schtupps ships, and then later GAFY's TMP adaptation of it, Ive asked GAFY to reteture Lord Schtupps shuttlepod to the Excel fleet standards.

I have since attached the shuttlebay pod to all the Icarus', the Hawkeyes, the Ajax's, and the Tridents.

Furthermore, and what is under debate within myself, ive added a deflector pod - "stolen" from Mackie's Firebrand. The thing about it, is it adds two photorp bays to the rear arc - and im not sure of its placement.

Without further delay, here is the improved Ajax2+

well, umm...er.. what about mounting it directly into the foreward saucer, and screw the 2 extra aft torp? The 2 pylon system u got now could also be changed to 1 heavy pylon going right through the pod into the nacelle.

Hell, ill give that a shot.

Personally, i like the twin support strut system - i think its more graceful for an excelsior.

on to refitting the same design idea onto the McKinnley's and Leavenworths.

That looks cool. I like Starforce's idea.

Okay, i tried the WADE style deflectors.

First, i tried a single one on the front of the saucer.

Then a double.

And then i tried it without a deflector at all

This deflector pod was taken from GAFY's Retexture of Mackie's Wickerman, but the actual dish was replaced by me (the last one didnt look that great methinks)

So far this is my favorite.

Try adding the deflector to the bottom of the saucer like this ...................

And the shuttlebay to the top of the saucer like this.............

That way your original design doesn't get a "cluttered" look because ya added all the extra stuff to it. And you still have added both the deflector and shuttlebay like ya wanted.

I have the pod and struts as and Excelsior look as well I will have to send you. I can add the deflector to it later tonight and the area around it, for a better look over all. The wickerman pod can be done as well but will need more time for that as I don't know where I left that ships textures or if I still have the build files for it.

or how about sticking the deflector on it's side and stuffing it in the front of the bulge for the shuttlebay decks? Or just texturing a wrap-around grill on the fore edge of it and screw the pod all together....oh and the 2 deflector one looks crap...defenetly hit the "reject" button on that baby.

I just had a thought, why not replace the torp pod with an oberth boom? Line up the front of the boom with the front edge of the "secondary hull", add a glowin meshy texture to the sensor bay and use the protruding tail as a torp launcher.
