Anyone else chomping at the bit for the first one too? I can't wait for Dec. 9th. I saw the trailer when I went to see ROTS and it looked incredible. I've been waiting thirty years for this so they would have to really screw it up for me not to like it.

Oh yeah, you Bet. I loved the books and of course the Cartoon when I was a kid. Heh, remember when they played this around Easter time , along with Rikky Tikky Tavy? That one with the Mongoose?

I love Rikky Tikky Tavy- I'm looking for an antique copy of the book for my cousin's impending arrival. :) I'm also looking for a book of Rudyard Kipling's poems- specifically the one containing 'The 'Eathen.'
I've never read the Narnia books- are they even in print anymore? I know that the movie looked AWESOME, and I'm definately going to be one of the first in line to catch it... but I always prefer to read the book first.
BTW- anyone know when the ETA on the Hobbit is? It should be getting close.

I'm sure you Can Recall the Lion , The Witch , and the Wardrobe. book three IIRC. Might not have read It, But It's still out there. there's 6 books I believe in the whole series.
As for The Hobbit, I think Pete has been working on the remake of King Kong the last year or so. So It might be abit in the Future for that one.

I'm sure you Can Recall the Lion , The Witch , and the Wardrobe. book three IIRC. Might not have read It, But It's still out there. there's 6 books I believe in the whole series.
As for The Hobbit, I think Pete has been working on the remake of King Kong the last year or so. So It might be abit in the Future for that one.

Narnia has seven books all still in print and you can even get them in a large one volume set.
The large volume has them in chronological order, but that is not the way they were published. The seven books are (in order of publication with the chronological order after):
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (2)
Prince Caspian (4)
The Voyage of The Dawn Treader (5)
The Silver Chair (6)
The Horse and His Boy (3)
The Magician's Nephew (1)
The Last Battle (7)

There are benefits to reading them in published order over the chronological way. By the time you get to The Magician's Nephew, you are very well versed in all aspects of the land of Narnia and going back to the beginning is sort of your reward as you get to finally find out how it all started (especially how that lamp post got all the way out in the woods in the first place). C.S. Lewis wrote them in that order for a reason, so if you are a purist you might want to read his vision of it in the way he wrote it.
The books are for children, but are very allegorical and have many levels even though they seem like simple fantasy tales about some adventurous children. All I know is it has that derivative Harry Potter crap beat by a mile. I'm glad they decided to do them in order of publication as The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is the most exciting and will grab the audience better.

Yep, Jackson is doing the King Kong remake *gag* then LOOK INTO making the Hobbit. Nothing is a sure bet as the last I heard. (admittedly that was about 3 months ago)
But I would LOVE to see Ian McKellen reprise his role as Gandalf, even Agent Smith can don the Elrond gear....
I think the guy they had play Bilbo would be perfect, but Ian Holm may be a bit too old. Never know though, they made him look good in the FotR when he finds the Sauron's ring.
Think John Rhys-Davies would play Gloin? ;D

Yes, I saw it and am quite proud that when I first heard the name "McCreedy" I recognized what it was.... ;D

I'm sure you're right. As you said they have already green lighted two more movies, but I haven't seen which ones. They could very well jump to The Horse and his boy and then Prince Caspian.
Funny thing is, where Tolkien needs to be reined in and clipped back for too much exposition, C.S. Lewis was rather sparse in his style with these stories and they need some fleshing out to make a good script. His style was aimed at children and there is nothing extra in the story telling or characters than what is needed to drive the story.
