Not that anyone in Atlanta cares. It's always Bulldogs this and YellowJackets that and Braves this and Braves that and sometime it's Vick, Vick, Vick, Vick...blah, blah, blah, blah...
but NHL Hockey is back!!!

BTW, that stupid space shuttle won't start up. Somebody should give it a kick and then go give it a big push. I can't believe I'm paying for this hunk of junk. I want my US tax money back. We should have bought the Millenium Falcon instead. :P

It s to bad for major juniors up here they were doing good because of the lock out and they get paid next to nothing.
They forgot to align the fusion coils with the generators Lady.

The dumb thing is- from the little I've seen- it's a bit worse of a deal for the players than what was on the table a year ago.
It does seem that way, but they finally figured out that part of something is better than nothing.
They have to put a salary cap in place or more than one team is going to go under.
Most teams can't afford to raise ticket prices and can't afford to pay 2-5 guys 6-10 mill each a year, let alone one guy (like when Jgar got 1/3 of the Penguins $30 million payroll)
And if they are not doing revenue sharing, they better start.

I'm Canadian and I don't care either. They should never have let it come to all this and I have been able to get by quite nicely without any NHL shinny for the last year and expect to continue to do so.

Hey I live in Canada and I dont care-- does that make me "uncanadian?" NO __ it makes me a Hockey dad
lets see
13 Year old son -- played this last winter (as a goalie) in
12 House league game
16 secect teams games
2 tournies (6 more games)
approx 18 practices
And instead of being a normal kid and enjoying summer -- has now joined a
summer 3on3 hockey league
10 more games (ongoing) with no practice
Do I miss NHL? Nope -- Do i miss Beer YEP ..
Now thats a Canuck !!!

Speaking of un-Canadian-like Canucks: I missed Don Cherry. Is he still with Hockey Night in Canada show? Or, did his big mouth get him in too much trouble again?

It depends on his contract as it was up for renewal but as for as i know it wasn't going to get renewed.It would all depend on the fans who like Grapes and if they wrote or e-mailed CBC sports of course Ron Mclean his side kick is ok.Then agian my interset in hockey has gone down hill since 94 after we lost to the Rangers and Montreal hasn't won it since 93 having the world record on the most wins of team sports it is no the Yankees that hold it.I want Montreal to get back as it was something to feel good about and to bring our cup home.It is just the NHL is now a US league and if there was an alternative up here others would watch it becuase money has taken the sport out of it. and oh leau beau on this.

The new CBA is supposed to have one of the best Revenue sharing deals of all the major sports and the Canadian dollar is back to where it should be now that Canada's budget is balanced and staying balanced; so, small-market Canadian teams should be able to operate in a business env. that has not be around since the 1980s. Maybe, a Canadian team is poised to make a Stanley Cup come-back.
I think this is where the players really mis-calculated. Not only were they trying to win a war against Billionaire owners while they were only millionaires, but Bettman was being cheered in cities like Edmonton for going for an Hard Cap. So, the Canadian hockey fans really did not back the players this time around. Big mistake to cross them. ;D

I did not back the players, but I also will not back the owners. WHY? well that part is easy. The players demanded more money in their contracts, and the owners SIGNED those contracts. Only team to actually turn down players who arbitrated and won (they did it twice) was Boston. KOODOS for Boston. And yes Boston is American and I am Canadian.
IMO, the owners and the players both messed up the whole system, all for the bottom dollar. Used to be able to go to a game and afford to sit near the redline. Now, if there is a redline, I need to remorgage the house to go.

No KOODOS for Boston. Who do you think got around the cap on rookie salaries by giving them huge signing bonuses, thus driving up costs. Think Joe Thornton. Way to go Harry!

Ottawa response to Yashin was becaause way back with the fiasco concerning Daigle.
(Which was a contributing factor to many of the higher salaries seen later)
They did weel with Yashin- but it was from bitter experience.

Still I like the fact that there are(were) a few rare teams that would look at the costs, like Ottawa.

New Jersey has done well producing cup victories while keeping the purse strings pretty tight.

The only way to keep the salaries and ticket prices under control is for the fans to stop paying so much to watch the games and wear the jerseys. It is a simple matter of supply and demand, if the fans really were unhappy with prices they can always watch local leagues until the NHL (or other major sporting league) is hurt enough to alter their behavior.

Actually that's (to a degree) a false assumption
The Problem is -markets like Toronto, NY, etc tend to sell most of their seating to corporate groups.
The corporations use them as perks/ write offs/ etc so don't really care how much the tickets cost.
Although very few (if any) of the owners will say it they would actually prefer if most of their capacity was filled
with corporate boxes.

Corporations don't buy a lot of jesreys and posters and such. That is where teams make most of their money. Other thing is TV revenues which come from the average guy watching the advertisements.
