Title: Enemy ships as AI ally bug it AOTK2

I was attacking a Klink hex and got two Patrol Cs and a Patrol B where it gave me Klink AI allies. The problem with this is that I was two hexes away from the nearest allied base. So I should have been getting allied ships as AI allies.

This happens in multi-sided servers.   Consider it a Klingon force that hated Feds more than Kitties.

So it's not a bug.  It's a finely crafted feature brought to you by those loving folks at the AoTK II Admin team.

Perhaps I didn't make this clear. I was attacking a KLINGON hex, against KLINGON ships, with KLINGON AI as allies. Soreyes got the same thing. However, CrazyCat, flying ISC, got Kzin AI allies. This is not a feature.

You were clear.  This happens sometimes in three-sides servers.  A lot of  of the game's logic assumes there will only be two sides and it gets confused when it suddenly finds itself facing three.  If examines its matrix and gives you an ally that hates someone else you hate, it assumes it has done its job.  Even in a stupid case like this.  I am certain J'inn issued a warning somewhere that this might happen from time to time, but I must admit I can't find it with a quick search.

Solution:  Fly ISC or Lyran for a while when attacking that hex, until the territory around it changes enough that the Kzinti start getting real allies there.  And rest easy.  It will likely happen to everyone eventually.

The only alternative for the admins would be to use total war variant missions. In this mission pack, there are no allied AI in any mission.

I can tell you what will happen. Player A (Empire 1) drafts Player B (Empire 2) and Player C (Empire 3). The game will see that Player B and C are enemies to Player A and place them in enemy team slots against Player A. The script then allies Player B and C in the mission. Currently the API can only distinguish between enemies and allies of the host player and not between drafted players. The only way to get a script to actually make the mission truly 3-sided is to hardcode the races into the script itself. Doing so, however, would only make those scripts useful for those particular political settings used on that server.

Tried this on the test server, it always comes out with 2 sides allied and 1 side as enemies...

Note to self:  When in a busy hex with all three factions, always get drafted.  Never draft!  (And bring friends to play rock with me.)

Friends like that I don't need.   Hell, I was nervous enough when I was doing a planet assault with DieHard, and he's on MY TEAM!!  I can only imagine the "friendly comadrie" you might receive in mission like that.   ::)

Have a Coalition guy in the hex when Hexx drafts you so both sides have something to jointly laugh at.  :gg:

Scenario:  Hexx is your Wingman, somebody drops while the mission is loading and the alliances are not set.  You can now target and shot at Hexx.

Fly close to any planet and it seems to disappear upon activation of your tractor beam  ;)
