Wonder where I been?.....(not really...LOL)
Ok fine...I'll tell you anyways...
For some reason....after replacment of my geo mx 400 with another mx 400....SFC wont run in anything but software mode...
Tried news drivers...old drivers.. older drivers....manufacturer drivers....nvidia drivers....re-installs....all of it...
any other ideas would be helpful...
yes I deleted the taldren file... :P

Have you done the whole XP Compatability, Visual Themes jazz?
-
Running ME....
-
Try reinstalling DirectX 9.0c, then install the latest nVidia driver from their website (there is only driver for all video cards these days).
Check the DXDiagnostics to make sure 3D video acceleration has been enabled (this may have been turned off by default when you swapped cards).
Also try other 3D games and see if they work.

Did that...even tried older drivers...tried drivers from the card maker....no difference...
Check the DXDiagnostics to make sure 3D video acceleration has been enabled (this may have been turned off by default when you swapped cards).
Ran DX diag allready...all enabled..no conflicts....all test run fine....
Also try other 3D games and see if they work.
All...my other games work fine....weird....
I'm stumped...been trying for weeks to get it running....frankly...I'm ready to give up on it and try to get one of my older machines set up...problem with that is one PC is an AMD-6...the other a P-2...the only reason I bought this PC was for SFC (dont tell the wife)....and now it wont run it...*sniff*
I can get the game to start in windowed mode....but only the user interface shows "in mission"....no models or graphics...
go to software mode....game loads and runs ok....but the lag online is unacceptible...frames per second drop like a stone...
I really appreciate the suggestions....really...but I've allready done everything I could think off...and a few things that shouldnt matter...
I'm about ready to forget about it until I get a new PC....which will be at least a year...between work and family time...I dont have time to play anyways...I barely can get online anymore with two teenagers.....
In all these years and several PC's....I've never been able to get my game running....posting is basiclly an act of desperation....I just keep thinking I'm forgetting a solution.....but it escapes me....
Someone call me a WAAAAmbulance.... ;)

Hmmm, thats a tough one. Did the game ever run at all on your current PC? Did it only stop working when you changed video cards?
Its quite possible that the drivers for the video card are not WinME compatoble. WindowsME was notoriously known as the worst version of Windows Microsoft ever made and Win98SE was far better until WinXP came along.
Is it possible to upgrade to WinXP? I suggest WinXP Pro.

Seperate, but related issue. If there are more than 6-7 players on a D2 server, my missions don't count. They'll run, but won't count for DV or prestige. Very annoying to be playing for nothing. :carmen:

This was hapenning on Mirror Mirror as well with the Ed missions, however prestige was still being added. This may not even be mission related, but could be a serverkit issue and/or a client issue. Thanks for the info though, FatherTed :) (Adds this to the to-do list)

Hey baby, come to Butthead... ;)
Seriously, I've been having this problem since M/M. I'll run a mission, and after finishing, I'll get booted off the server while trying to leave the hex. Meanwhile, I pick up no prestige for running the mission. It only happens once numbers go over 6-7 logged on.

Hmmm, this sounds like the mission results are not being reported back to the server at all, if you are losing connection with the server. Curious that this is dependant upon the number of players online though. You have WinXP with SP2? I know woth SP2, Microsoft reduced the default number of open connections at anyone time to the internet from 50 to 10, in an attempt to limit potential hacking (since by default in WinXP all ports are open). I wonder if this has anything to do with it. Maybe you are running out of connections.
-
I'm running XP. Sometimes it goes FUBAR with as few as 3 players and will run stable with a dozen or so, but that's rare. The norm is about 6-7 players before it starts getting screwy...

Yes
Did it only stop working when you changed video cards?
Not only that...my whole PC stopped running when I changed cards....had to reload the OS.....then the resolution was locked at 800x600......took a lot of screwing around to get higher resolutions to work ok...
Its quite possible that the drivers for the video card are not WinME compatoble.
Possible....but then why would everything else work?
WindowsME was notoriously known as the worst version of Windows Microsoft ever made and Win98SE was far better until WinXP came along.
Sure...rub it in....ME is a POS...LOL...I know...I know...
Is it possible to upgrade to WinXP? I suggest WinXP Pro.
Not bloody likely....I'd go back to 98 before I'd ever go for XP....
Matter of principle.... ;)
My best bet may be to just bite the bullet and forget about this PC.....try and get on of my older ones set up...
I do appreciate the input...really.... ;D

Crim, why do you hate XP so much? I have not had many problems with it. Wait, now that I think about it, I have had a lot of problems, but I have been able to work through them eventually.
That's a heck of a recommendation, isn't it?
-
I've been using XP for 2 yrs now, zero problems...even havn't had any problems with the SP2 when it came out... ;D

Hate XP?...no I dont hate XP....
Too many things about it I dont like...for example...
If I wanna gut my whole machine and build it from the ground up( more than 4 componnets......why should I have to re-register my OS in order for it to work (yes I know there is a work around)...My uderstanding is that XP pro doesnt do this...
I cant afford it...
I should be able to load a purchased operating system on as many PC's as I personally own...My understanding is that XP pro doent negate this...(or that there is a work around)...
I cant afford it...
I have it on very good authority...you should never "upgrade" an OS....way better off to have the whole OS and install fresh...
I currently have both 98 and ME on disk...
All my other machines run 98 with no problems what so ever...even my old P233 ran SFC1 and EAW (and still does) my AMD-6 and P3 run OP fine....but arent internet capable at the moment...
I'm a stuck in the mud retrograde cave man who drives a 73 pontiac because I can still fix it if I have to....
I cant afford it...
I'm stupid....
pick one....LMAO ;D

May I ask what the specs of your current computer are and do you still have the old video card where everything worked? Could it be a faulty video card?

Thanks for that Crim.
If your video card is AGP, then you really need more RAM. I'm afraid 128MBs these days just isnt enough, especially when AGP cards use main memory to store textures. I would not recommend installing WinXP on this system either for the same reason. You need at least 512MBs. Your system uses the older PC133 or PC100 RAM, however, so to upgrade you are really buying old stuff.
If anyone has some old PC133 or PC100 RAM from an older system they are no longer using, perhaps they would consider donating it to Crim?
-
Hey Crim, I got some old memory you can use. 256MB worth.
Will give it to you free. PM me your address and I will send it to you.
And I am not joking. :)

you people rock!

:o
Awesome...addy PM'd....
Thank you very mucho... 8)

It could be a RAM issue. I'm running 256 meg. I could access more, but I'm not speaking to my dad, cheapskate that he is. He's got the old computer, and I'm not in the mood to ask him to go fishing for the RAM chips.
-
PM recieved... will get them out to you tomorrow the earliest. :)

+1 Karma for you, sir...

Crim, I did finally mail the memory. sorry that it was so late. Do to a money shortage i was able to mail it off the cheapest way. :)
also, msot of my money was sucked up by my desktop syst.. ::)
It should arrive in about 2 to 3 days. :D

Recieved K's yesterday....
*Crim starts looking for hammer and wrenches to install RAM*
;)
-
Let us know if this helps with your game issue :)
-
Negative...But big thanks to Karnak and Cayne... :notworthy:
It's more than likely a driver issue...
-
Crimmy:
You know, that's oddly close to the specs of my box which has run SFC just fine (except for a little playing with the sfc.ini file...)
I've got a Celeron 1 gHz with 256 mb RAM (Recent addition, worked for 10+ campaigns at 128 mb) on a GeForce 2 MX 400 PCI (since my box doesn't have a physical AGP slot)
First thought is to drop the color depth to 16 bit from 24/32 bit when playing SFC. I remember hearing that the textures don't like to display when the color depths are different...
-
Well...yeah...I did that...
Game loads...still no models or weapons graphics
-

Did you try setting your wireframe setting to 1 in sfc.ini file? That's what I had to do to see models. I still cannot see ION storms though. :banghead:

Actually...I FIXED IT finnally......
I had a little time to burn this Eve and I followed a hunch....I regressed my drivers even farther back....to 41.09 to be exact...much farther back than I previously tried...
And had to set windowed to enabled....
but she works!........
Thanks for all the help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOOT!

Excellent :)
The extra RAM should make a difference as well.
