I prefer the top pic myself. It is more balanced in terms of where strategic assets are placed and how equadistant they all are from each side. The more important feature here is that PvP will be more concentrated as all the empires share very little neutral zone space. The bottom pic has 4x the neutral zone and PvP would be stretched out all over.
The bottom pic is more abstract... based on something I saw from a web pic of the ST galaxy. Just looked cool, and I like the placement of the empires, it's rather unique in terms of how and where they are all located. I still prefer the top pic.
-
Top one, but the bottom one is an interesting variation on the standard Fed&Emp map, that would be fun to to try sometime.
-
Its close.... But I dont like the idea of the feds being in the middle. Kingons on the other hand might work.
-
I will say the top pick but put the Gorn in middle like what SkyFlyer said.
-
top one...and leave the gorn where their at...
-
what would be teams again?
-
Top one with no changes.
-
I like the top one also. leave the Feds where they are. ;D
-
Poll is useless without knowing sides.
-
I stated standard alliances above. Both pics have the same sides. In the top pic its Left vs Right. The bottom pic has the same teams, but they are in different locations.
-
Bottom one looks more interesting.

It does, doesnt it? But if you look at the vast number of neutral zone areas that seperate all the empires from one another... PvP is strung out all over the place. On the map at the top, PvP will be fairly concentrated as all the empires share a very short neutral zone. Wont take long to go from one action zone to another.

But there is more to the game than PvP, we need to maintain the "illussion" of Strategy.

I still think you're sulking- but is it possible to turn off the news reports
that tell when a player has come out of a mission?

You mean the "/afk" stuff and names going dark or do you mean the "who attacked who" reporting?

Wll there be...
1) Destructable bases?
2) Ambassador hexes?
3) Tholians?
4) Mirdan?

1) Destructable bases?
- SB's are not destructibe by mission. Only by Scorched Earth. Bats and BS are.
2) Ambassador hexes?
- Yes.
Go here: http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163359747.msg1122615394.html#msg1122615394 for more details to your Q1 and !2.
3) Tholians/Andromedans?
- Most likely not. The new '9th' non-player Empire race makes having them possible, but unless the community really wants more cool things to blow up, then no. I certainly wouldnt mind having them in. I like flavor. Besides, they could be a lot of fun to blow up and they have already been done and tested so adding them would be easy.
4) Mirdan?
- Not unless the RM's for the Hydran and Mirak both want it.
-
I like the top one also. leave the Feds where they are.
BINGO!!!!!! ;D
-
One last question Diz - are you going to allow multiple accounts for different races?
(Personally I think we should move away from this.)

Why?

So planets can be blown ups but not starbases? Seems a bit silly.

I think it's too easy when peeps can switch back and forth between PvP and hexx-flipping races. There should be some hard choices to be made there.
e.g. If you want to flip in a DF, your PvP's will be in an NCC. etc etc.
-
You should really read that thread in the link I posted above. Yes, SB and Planets can be destroyed. New SB's can be 'allocated' not bought, and placed (edited) on the map and Planets can be terraformed. Can be. That's why that thread you hijackers are corrupting was posted... to talk about this stuff. You're hijacking this thread now.

I'm not going to be the one to tell players they must fly one race for an entire server. Most players like the option of flying a variety of races and ships. It adds to their gaming experience.
Unlike your issue, I have a different gripe about multiple accounts. I'd like to see players not use pseudo names for multiple accounts. I like knowing who players are when they switch races for more than a few reasons.

This one, on a much smaller scale with less neurtal space, but the same idea of irregular borders and such. nice straight borders and uniform DVs are for the unimaginative ;)

Custom Map DV's by RM's throw out uniform DV's.
Problem with articfire was it took forever to get from one front to the other. That map, PvP players aside, with 2-5 DV's per hex would still work today. But to appease the PvP players... it's just too much a hex flippers dream. Sorry.

You can still do it on a smaller scale with less neutral space and although RMs can customize DVs you can have hex DV maximums aand starting values different for the various hexes of an empire, not just a uniform number. This will give an RM more options to work with when customizing. You can make some very low DV outlying area which while not neutral space can server as buffer zones within an empire. A similar style map to the AF one can be done with the lower DV as you stated and with the map being 25% of the size of AF, maybe less, and still capture much of the same effect.
-
Make your own map then. Assigning 400 DV's the RM's can place in their own space is a lot of work for the map maker. Dont ask too much of them.
EDIT: The starting values are 10, the max are 20 and then you have 400 DV's + or - to place.

Voice coms Thurday, pick a time, PM me, and show me how to use tha mapmaker and I'll do it. Not one to ask somebody to do something I wouldn't be willing to do myself if it is possible.

Catch u late that night. Best way to work out map ideas is to trade them back and forth. I look forward to it.

I'm there.
