Title: The Alliance wins SGO5
Post by: Dizzy on October 30, 2005, 08:52:54 pm
Congradulations to the Coalition for winning the server.

After the 1st week of battle, neither the Alliance nor the Coalition were in the lead... Ship attrition was much higher for the Coalition, but the Alliance paid for it by losing ground. Overall, round one was a stalemate.

Planetary and base objectives were secured by the Coalition during round two but the Aliiance made a successful last ditch effort to sever the lines of supply and deny the Coalition an opportunity to capitalize on the occupation and plunder of enemy resources. The Coalition was further frustrated by higher attrition than the Alliance who had now asserted themselves the more powerful and dominant force in every engagement. This did not change the fact, however, that the Coalition had now entrenched themselves in Alliance space and had no intention of going anywhere despite their massive ship losses.

But heading into the third and final phase, the Coalition lead a massive offensive that smashed through Federation and Mirak defenses and obliterated the Lyran frontline. When the dust settled, 2 Lyran planetary/base objectives were captured along with a Mirak base and Fed planet. All lines of supply were wisely secured this time around and the war shifted favorably to the Coalition side. In a surprising twist, the Coalition managed to use the best of their latest technological ship advances and overcome their lack of skill versus the Alliance veterans. This allowed them to stand toe to toe against the Alliance in battle and the attrition on both sides, when all was said and done, were dead even.

Synopsis:

History is written by the victors and historians would write of great battles, sacrifices and heroic captains that would be told for generations... But the real story was plain, as there was no clear victor. The Coalition was able to recover in the end from early and massive ship and personal attrition, but they had conquered a considerable amount Alliance space and held 4 stratigically valuable objectives. The Alliance on the other hand were hard pressed to capitalize on anything other than the fact they were able to finally hold the Coalition to the space they occupied some 7 years earlier. The landscape hadn't changed much but the Coalition in the end had secured what they conquered.

At the end of the war, an armistice was signed, with all the galactic powers exhausted, an unsteady peace followed. The Coalition had won a minor victory over the Alliance and was set to go into any future conflict with an advantage using enemy resources now firmly under their control. The Coalition had also demonstrated that attrition would not any longer be a concern, but they knew now they could stand on their own vs the best the Alliance could throw at them. The future was clear. The Coalition was a force the rest of the galaxy would come to fear... and respect.

GG everyone! It was a great server. Thanks to all who made it special. ;)

EDIT: Folks, SGO5 will be left up for a while so players can logon to have fun and enjoy themselves. Mandatory missions will be left off and the Tigerheart cartel may be played. Andromedan ships are present in the Tigerheart list and hitting the 'Deepscan' button will turn on tactical warp and allow the Andromedan ship for 3 seconds to jump from whatever speed its going to 55 or so and then go back to 31 and then 16 once deepscan is taken off, but ONLY in EEK missions will this be possible. Please give feedback on this.

There are a few Andromedan ships represented and if you play the Tigerhearts, plz only use these Andromedan ships. TY! Fleeting and Max Heavy Metal rules are still in effect as are all the other rules... Feel free to break them if your opponent agrees to special matches.

Edit2: There is also a known shiplist error that has the andromdan ship, A-DRA (Dragon Mauler), showing the ability to carry 2 Cobras, but cannot launch them. Will be fixed at a later time... Server coming down to turn off mandatories. Should work now.

1st post edited.

EDIT: Admins plese unsticky the Kills thread. The server will continue with the Andromedan invasion... Until something else comes along, SG Descriptions and the downloads thread should be left stickied. I'll continue to maintain the server, test things, and fiddle around for the next server.

I may be stupid but did anyone earn a VC point?  You would seem to suggest not.

The Coalition earned 2 Victory Points for capturing 2 Lyran and 1 Mirak and Fed planet/bases. No PvP Victory Points were awarded this server because at no time did either team meet the 2 to 1 pvp points requirement or the 1.5 to 1 kill ratio and pairing it with a map VC hex. I do think the Alliance had once or twice a 1.5 to 1 ratio, but for it to count, they must also have had at least one planet or base under their control and they did not.
