NASA has decided not to try to deflect it as of now. they will reconsider if there is cause to do so.

We should check to see if it is going to land anywhere interesting before we deflect it. I'd love to get some film footage of a large colission, it might just free up a decent amount of money for space projects :)

I'd read that they are going to attach a transponder to it as it passes close to Earth in 2019, allowing them to closely monitor it's trajectory and delta v... This will let them know if they have to make a deflection attempt, which would have to be decided on by 2021 to give them time to organize a mission...
